Blyth to host ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ summer campBlyth United Church and Egmondville United Church will host a new kind of summer daycamp next week as Kathy Douglas,Youth Minister with the Huron-PerthPresbytery of the United Church, will be running Kids in the Kitchen. The program, designed toestablish a healthy relationshipbetween children and their food, willrun in Blyth from July 22 to 26 and Egmondville from Aug. 12 to 16 and ‘costs’ a suggested donation of $15to $30 per child. Laura Peach, a nutrition anddietetics student from The University of Western Ontario in London is working with Douglas to help create that healthy relationship. While Douglas has been running day camps for four years through the presbytery, Peach is a newcomer looking to pair with Douglas to create the program. “I have been running a travelling day camp in Huron and Perth County for four years,” Douglas explained. “Young adults get paid to do it. There are government grants and the church kicks in money and we pay them to help run the camp.” The camps haven’t been to Blyth before because the local churches do a good job of providing those kinds of opportunities Douglas said. Peach, however, hasn’t been a part of those camps. “Laura came to me out of the blue and asked if I would be interested in running a cooking camp for kids,” she said. “She wanted to do a speciality camp focused on food and nutrition. The prayer of approach followed. David asked the congregation what the meaning of “on the same page” meant. Not everyone is the same, we speak different languages, we are different colours and we all have different homes, but to God we are all the same and children of God. First, by His own sovereign election. He chose them, and set His love upon them. He chose them altogether apart from any goodness in them at the time, or any goodness which He foresaw in them. He had mercy on whom He would have mercy, and ordained a chosen company unto eternal life. Therefore, are they His by His unconstrained election. They are not only His by choice--but by purchase. He has bought and paid for them to the utmost farthing--hence there can be no dispute about His title to them. The Lord’s portion has been fully redeemed, not with corruptible things, as with silver and gold--but with the precious blood of the Lord Jesus Christ! See the blood-mark upon all the elect, invisible to human eye--but known to Christ, for “the Lord knows those who are His!” He forgets none of those whom He has redeemed! He counts the sheep for whom He laid down His life, and well remembers the people for whom He gave Himself. They are also His by conquest. What a battle He had in us--before we would be won! How long He laid siege to our hearts! How often He sent us terms of surrender! But we barred our gates, and fortified our walls against Him. Do we not remember that glorious hour--when He conquered our hearts? When He placed His cross against the wall, and scaled our ramparts, planting the blood-red flat of His omnipotent mercy on our strongholds? Yes, we are, indeed--the conquered captives of His omnipotent love! A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956 Continued on page 16
