Even if no proposals for wind
farms have been received, Morris-
Turnberry is putting out the word
that it is not a willing host for
industrial wind turbine projects.
Council approved letter to be sent
to Premier Kathleen Wynne statingits position, after she earlier said thatmunicipalities that were not “willing
hosts” would not have wind farms
forced on them.
“As representatives of our
constituents it is important that we
speak on their behalf and advise you
that we have concerns with the
potential health effects of windturbine developments, and we do notsupport the building of industrial
wind turbines in the Municipality of
Morris-Turnberry,” the letter read.
The Premier will also be getting a
letter from Morris-Turnberry
expressing its support for a
resolution from Killaloe, Hagarty
and Richards opposing provincialsupport for urban transit in Toronto. The Premier had early spoken about
the need for new funds to support
mass-transit expansion in the
Toronto-Hamilton area.
Noting that the province had
downloaded highways to
municipalities, adding to their
financial burden, the resolutionstated “the Township of Killaloe,Hagarty and Richards is vehemently
opposed to any plan by the
provincial government that increases
the financial burden on municipal
ratepayers in rural Ontario by
subsidizing the transit system for the
GTA.”
The families of the late Oliphant
and Mary (Ireland) Smith held their
bi-annual reunion at the Belgrave
Community Centre June 23. Over 50
relatives attended and enjoyed a
smorgasbord noon meal. The room
was filled with laughter as Clifford
Coultes entertained with the Clark
Johnston song, “It’s Sure to Tickle
Me” and other numbers.
Those present included visitors
from Minden, Mississauga,
Hamilton, Sudbury, London, Sarnia
and the surrounding area.
Smith descendants had a great
time reminiscing, visiting and
playing games. It was a hoot to see
Mary Grace Wightman, who will be
95 years young on Aug. 4, Oliphant
and Mary’s oldest grandchild, Ross
Taylor who was 93 on June 11 who
tried their hand to see how many
blows it took to put a nail in an old
stump of wood. Two familiar faces
were missing the reunion, Oliphant
