BIA debates construction of pending bike racks
The Blyth Business Improvement
Area (BIA) will be waiting a little
longer to install bicycle racks at key
points throughout the village as there
were concerns with how the racks
are made.
The idea was originally proposed
and researched by Vice-Chair PeterGusso, owner of Part II Bistro andThe Station House. He came back
with a suggestion for racks that are
both shaped like bicycles and easy to
remove for the winter season. The
racks would have a powdered finish
but Steven Sparling, President and
CEO of Sparlings Propane, was
concerned that they may not stand
up to repeated contacts with bikes.“It’s an awesome idea, and theyare definitely integral to the
streetscape,” he said. “However, we
may be looking at a big maintenance
issue here. We have 30 streetlights
that need painting and I don’t think
we should pile on to that. We need
something that will stand up to wear
and tear. The powder coating is great
until it’s chipped. Aside from that,it’s a great idea.”Sparling also suggested that the
idea and proposed implementation
be sent to the Stantec Consulting
Firm to see how they feel it fits into
a streetscape they proposed on
behalf of Blyth stakeholders last
year.
North Huron Deputy-Reeve David
Riach stated that he felt thepowdered finish would be fine. The BIA decided to research
alternative finishes and get input
from Stantec agents before
proceeding.

Letter to the Editor
Food Share ends year on par with 2012
THE EDITOR,
The North Huron Community
Food Share has just completed
another year-end with surprising
results – some good, some bad. We
were fortunate to once again finish
our year-end with a very similar
bank balance as last year. This
means that our message of needing
your support year-round, whether by
food donations or monetary
donations, is being heard.
We however, need to report an
alarming up-swing in the use of the
Food Share this year. As I reported
last spring, our usage had increased
17 per cent over the year before,
however we have now experienced
another 18 per cent increase this
fiscal year. This results in an
amazing 35 per cent increase over
two years. In a country as great as
Canada, this should not be
happening. Our Food Share was
accessed 3,786 times this past year,
which may include monthly visits
from some families and not as
regular visits from others. We are in
the process of updating all the
families who actually access the
Food Share, whether monthly or not,
to give us a more complete number
on all families that we serve.
This past year, in addition to the
non-perishable food donations we
received and the ongoing food
donations from the Exeter
Distribution Centre, we needed to
purchase more than $60,000 worth
of food from local food stores to
keep our shelves full. That is not a
typo … that is how we use most of
the monetary donations that we
receive. We have very few other
expenses, other than rent, hydro,
office, etc. We are very proud to
once again proclaim that we are a
100 per cent volunteer organization.
Your donation is put to great use in
the purchase of food. We make a
point of shopping locally and
supporting the grocery stores in
Wingham and the surrounding area.
At our annual meeting in June, we
were pleased to welcome a new
director to our board. Tanya Martin
comes to us from Teeswater and I’m
sure she’ll be an asset to our board,
as are all our directors. I’m very
fortunate to once again be chose as
the Chairman for another year of
this great organization. If you ever
wonder about our list of directors,
board purpose, how you can help, be
it volunteering or donating, please
access our website –
www.nhfoodhsare.ca or like us on
Facebook.
We have a couple OF promotions
coming up that we would like to
share with you. On holiday Monday,
Aug. 5, the Laundry Room on
Josephine Street is offering free use
of the laundry facilities for those
who need to use them. Sometimes
people are forced to make decisions
on whether they do laundry or buy
food. The Food Share directors will
be having a barbecue “by donation”
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We are still
looking for some donations of food,
etc. towards the barbecue or even
soap, etc. to help with the laundry.
The Food Share thanks Doug and
Trish Trenter for this great idea to
give back to the community.
Since 2011 the “Huron Backpacks
for Kids Program” has been
supporting families that can’t afford
the cost of school supplies and
backpacks for their children. Last
year over 300 school-aged children
received a backpack of supplies for
their first day of school. Seventy-six
of these backpacks were handed out
to clients of the North Huron
Community Food Share. The Food
Share is taking registrations now
from our clients. MicroAge Basics
in Wingham and Goderich is very
pleased to be part of this program
and will have drop-off boxes located
in both stores. When you are out
shopping, take a few moments and
buy some school supplies (by July
15 if possible) and drop them off at
either store or area hospitals or even
any Huron County Food Bank.
The North Huron Community
Food Share would once again like
thank each and everyone for being
such a caring community and
supporting us on a year-round basis.

He sees countless evils in each one of us!
(J.C. Ryle, “The Gospel of Mark” 1857)
See what a black catalogue of evils the human heart contains!
“For from within, out of a person’s heart, come... evil thoughts, sexual
immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, eagerness for lustful
pleasure, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.
All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you and make you
unacceptable to God.” Mark 7:21-23
Let us distinctly understand, when we read these words, that our Lord is speaking
of the human heart universally. He is not speaking only of the notorious profligate,
or the prisoner in the jail. He is speaking of all mankind. All of us, whether... high
or low, rich or poor, masters or servants, old or young, learned or unlearned--all of
us have by nature such a heart as Jesus here describes! The seeds of all the evils
here mentioned, lie hidden within us all. They may lie dormant all our lives. They
may be kept down by...the fear of consequences; the restraint of public opinion; the
dread of discovery; or the desire to be thought respectable.
But every person has within him, the root of every sin!
How humble we ought to be, when we read these verses! “We are all as an unclean
thing” in God’s sight. He sees countless evils in each one of us, which the world
never sees at all, for He reads our hearts. Surely of all sins to which we are liable,
self-righteousness is the most unreasonable.
How thankful we ought to be for the Gospel, when we read these verses! That
Gospel contains a complete provision for all the needs of our poor defiled natures.
The blood of Christ can “cleanse us from all sin.” The Holy Spirit can change even
our sinful hearts, and keep them clean, when changed. The man that does not glory
in the Gospel, can surely know little of the plague that is within him.
How watchful we ought to be, when we remember these verses! What a careful
guard we ought to keep over our imaginations, our tongues, and our daily
behaviour! At the head of the black list of our heart’s contents, stand “evil
thoughts.” Let us never forget that. Thoughts are the parents of words and deeds!
Let us pray daily for grace to keep our thoughts in order, and let us cry earnestly
and fervently, “lead us not into temptation!”
