makes for good, solid schedules.
“Originally, it was just
tradespeople that went over there,”
she said. “It’s a really well-known
organization in Ireland and Europe
because of that.”
Lee explained that, while she is a
project manager in marketing in
Toronto, her husband owns his own
business and is a bricklayer by trade.
The couple is still seeking
contributions from local businesses
to help with the silent auction and, as
a side project, Lee has begin
collecting school supplies to take
with her on the trip.
“I’m working with a few schools
in Toronto,” she said. “I’ve been in
touch with them so that when
lockers are all cleaned out, we can
get what people don’t need. I also
have my nieces working in their
schools to help with that. We’re
looking for pencils, school materials,
papers and notebooks.”

Central Huron Councillor Brian
Barnim has started a process he
hopes will result in the de-
amalgamation of Goderich
Township from the rest of Central
Huron.
At Central Huron Council’s June
18 meeting, Barnim handed a
petition to members of the
assembled media and to those in the
gallery stating his intentions. In a
subsequent interview with The
Citizen, he was careful to say that his
intentions are his alone as a
Goderich Township ratepayer, not as
a councillor and not as a
representative of council.
Barnim hopes to present a private
bill to the Ontario legislature
sometime this fall, likely in
November. To take this action, he
says, he doesn’t necessarily need
signatures on the petition. He can do
it on his own, but he’d like to know
he has support.
The petition states: “To the
Legislative Assembly of Ontario,
Whereas Goderich Township was
formerly a thriving and independent
community before forced
amalgamation; whereas the
taxpayers of Goderich Township
have suffered an inequitable burden
since forced amalgamation; whereas
Goderich Township is financially
secure, independent and self-
sufficient; therefore, we the
undersigned, petition the Legislature
of Ontario to de-amalgamate
Goderich Township from the
Municipality of Central Huron.”
The petition’s statement, which
those who sign are attaching their
names to, is “to petition the
Legislative Assembly of Ontario to
reinstate the Municipality of
Goderich Township to its former
