The Citizen, 2013-06-20, Page 7THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JUNE 20, 2013. PAGE 7.After 60 years, the union of Rossand Mary Procter of RR5, Brusselsis still going strong.
It was May 22, 1953 that Mary
Louise Cameron of Walkerton and
Ross S. Procter of RR5, Brussels
decided to tie the knot in Walkerton.
Mary, the daughter of Tex and
Rachel (Rogers) Cameron and Ross,
the son of Stewart and Alice (Imlay)
Procter were wed in Walkerton.
Their attendants were Charles
Procter and Margaret Brown.
For their honeymoon, the couple
attended the coronation of Queen
Elizabeth II in London, England on
June 2, 1953. From there, they then
took a 29-day tour of Europe and a
14-day tour of England and
Scotland. Upon returning to Ontario,
the couple settled in Burlington,
where they lived after their marriage.
Ross took on a position as a sales
manager for Ralston Purina while
Mary worked as a registered nurse in
the labour and delivery unit of
Hamilton General Hospital.
The couple eventually took on
farming as well and retired from the
working world in 2000.
Ross and Mary soon found
themselves the heads of a large
family, with children Cameron,
Louise, Donald, Christopher and
Anne, and grandchildren Andrew,
Sophia, Dennis, Scot, Kyle, Peggy,
Candace, Nicole, Lauren and Ian.
At one point Ross acted aspresident of the World ShorthornAssociation, while over the years the
couple was involved with area Girl
Guides, Boy Scouts, the Canadian
Cancer Society, the Wellington
Square United Church and the local
Conservative Party.
The couple celebrated with a large
group of their friends and family
members on June 9 at the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club. The guest list
included relatives from the U.S.A.
and friends from as far away as
Malta.
Ross and Mary have spent their
lives as world travellers, making
their way to all the continents of the
world. Including witnessing the
coronation of Queen Elizabeth II,
Ross and Mary also met Prince
Charles in France with the Canadian
Parachute Battalion and Princess
Anne at St. James Palace with the
World Shorthorn Association.
On Sunday, June 16, the Kids for
Christ group conducted the church
service at Knox United Church in
Belgrave. Ten children helped
leader Kim Walker deliver a great
service.
Johnathon Vincent led the
congregation in the call to worship.
Emily and Austin Bieman read a
Father’s Day poem entitled “Pick
Me”. Jenna and Caleigh Hopper also
entertained everyone with the poem,
“If I Went Shopping For A Dad”.
Jenna then read scripture from the
Bible followed by Clarissa Gordon
telling everyone about the history of
Father’s Day.
All Kids For Christ members took
part in songs, poems and a play
about “Dear Old Dad”. During the
service the children helped collect
food and money to help the local
food drive the church is sponsoring.
The service ended with grace and
then everyone enjoyed a delicious
chicken barbecue. The Kids For
Christ members were Jenna Hopper,
Caleigh Hopper, Clarissa Gordon,
Emily Bieman, Austin Bieman,
MacKenzie Wightman, Johnathan
Vincent, Abby Robinson, Prestin
Robinson and Hayden Jamieson.
The Kids For Christ group would
like to thank everyone who helped
with the service. A special thanks
goes out to Cam Procter and his
barbecue crew for the delicious
chicken.
The flowers on the front step of
the church were placed in loving
memory of Gloria Dow by Don Dow
and family.
