By Marilyn Craig Call 523-9318 From Marilyn’s Desk Cable preaches giving at all times Greeting worshippers at Blyth United Church on Sunday, June 16 were Michelle McNichol and Tom Cronin. Ushering were Laurie Sparling, Doug Whitson, Tom Cronin and Michelle McNichol. Floyd Herman was music director and Reid Button ran the power point. Harrison, grandson of Floyd Herman, helped Pastor Sandra Cable in lighting the candles on the altar table. Pastor Cable drew everyone’s attention to the announcements in the bulletin and the ones that had been rolling on the power point. The call to worship was repeated responsively and followed by the singing of the two hymns, “Come All You People” and “I Can Feel You Near Me God.” The opening prayer was repeated responsively followed by the singing of the hymn, “Dear God, Who Loves All Humankind.” The choir sang the anthem, “Amazing Grace” in honour of all the fathers in the congregation. The scripture reading was from Luke 7: 36 - 8:3. Pastor Cable’s message to the congregation was “Giving Beyond Measure”. When we invite guests to our homes we have certain expectations like pleasant conversation, good food and laughter. When a guest turns up uninvited it sometimes throws us out of balance. In the scripture a woman crashed the party that Simon was hosting and washed Jesus’ feet, dried them with her hair and anointed His feet with oil. Simon didn’t welcome the woman but Jesus told her that her sins had been forgiven because of her faith. Simon’s thoughts were all about him but the women’s thoughts were all about Jesus. Luke also tells of the women who travelled along with Jesus. Jesus tells the woman that her faith has saved her and go to in peace. The prayers of the people were followed by the singing of The Lord’s Prayer. The first and third verses of the hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness” was sung. Heather Jackson took over the service so that Pastor Cable could get back to Brussels for their service. The offering was received followed by the singing of the offering response, “What Can I Do?” and the offertory prayer. The last hymn was “He Leadeth Me, O Blessed Thought.” The commissioning and benediction was followed by the singing of the response, “Go Now in Peace”. Everyone was invited for coffee and treats before going home. We should sweetly acquiescence in God’s will (J.R. Miller, “Intimate Letters on Personal Problems” 1914) “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave- -and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised!” Job 1:21 We should sweetly acquiescence in God’s will, in faith that whatever He permits in our life, is right and best for us. “He is the LORD; let Him do what seems good in His eyes!” 1 Samuel 3:18 A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956 Citizens concerned over delay Councillor Ray Hallahan of North Huron Township Council reported that he is receiving calls from ratepayers regarding the township’s official plan. “They want to know when the review will be done,” he said at council’s June 3 meeting. “Some of them indicated they’ve had e-mails that it was supposed to be done some time ago. I’m a little disturbed that we had a meeting regarding it scheduled that was cancelled and won’t be held until July 15.” Hallahan indicated that the concerned citizens were going to come that night but are likely going to come to the next township council meeting to deal with the issue. “They’re likely going to ask if we can push it on faster,” he said. “I don’t think we can. I don’t want to point fingers. [North Huron Township’s appointed Planner Sally McMullen] is doing her job well, but maybe she needs some assistance to help her out. The ratepayers would like to see this done a little faster.” Councillor Archie MacGowan stated that the meeting had to be delayed due to legitimate reasons, but wondered if council could have communicated that more effectively. Reeve Neil Vincent explained that, with only one planner, any development in North Huron will slow down the official plan. “People purchasing properties, asking for planning documents or considering development in one form or another will lead to Sally being slowed down,” he said. “We have to think about that when asking for these things. It all takes her away from the plan.” MacGowan suggested sending a note to McMullen stating that the issue was discussed. “We know she’s working judiciously and if there’s anything we can do to help her get this moving quickly, it should be done,” he said.
