Eat into the very soul of the Bible (Charles Spurgeon) “Your words were found, and I ate them; and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart!” Jeremiah 15:16 Oh, that you and I might get into the very heart of the Word of God--and that Word into ourselves! As I have seen the silkworm eat into the leaf, and consume it--so ought we to do with the Word of the Lord--not crawl over its surface, but eat right into it until we have taken it into our inmost parts! It is idle merely to let the eye glance over the words, or to recollect the poetic expressions, or the historic facts; but it is blessed to eat into the very soul of the Bible until, at last... you come to talk in Scriptural language, your very life is fashioned upon Scripture models, and, what is better still, your mind is flavoured with the words of the Lord. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by my every word that proceeds from the mouth of God!” Matthew 4:4 A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956 Open 9 am - 8 pm Monday ~ Saturday Closed Sundays Sylvia says... “Our baskets and containers always look nice, but right now, they look spectacular! Floyd Herman was music director. Blyth United Church welcomedPastor Sandra Cable as their interimminister. Pastor Cable remindedeveryone of the announcements printed in the bulletin. The call to worship was repeated responsively. The singing of “Come All You People” and “I Can Feel You Near Me God”, prepared everyone for worship, the opening prayer was repeated responsively. The singing of the hymn, “Small Things Count” was sung. Pastor Cable told the children’s story about sharing. As there was no Sunday School for the summer there was only one child, Jack. Floyd Herman gave a short review of the anthem “Did You Stop to Pray This Morning” sung the choir. The scripture reading was from 1 Kings17: 8-16 and 17-24.Pastor Cable’s message to thecongregation was “Share – When You Think You Can’t.” Often when we are baking and find we don’t have an ingredient, we ask a neighbour to share the ingredient. This is neighbours sharing. In the scriptures Elijah asked the woman to share her bread with him. The woman was reluctant because she was a widow and she only had enough for herself and her son, or they would starve to death. Elijah told the woman that there would be enough and it would last because God would see that there was enough. The woman’s son had died and Elijah asked God to bring himback to life as he was the only thingthe woman had left. God grantedElijah’s prayer. God performs miracles. God will answer our prayers, maybe not the way we would like, but the way He sees fit for us. In sharing we will live the way God has given us. In sharing Pastor Cable with Brussels United Church we are making things happen and we will help each other. The prayers for the people was followed by the singing of The Lord’s Prayer. Brenda Brooks took over the service to allow Pastor Cable to return to the Brussels service. The offering was received followed by the offertory response, “What Can I Do?”, the offertory prayer and the singing of the last hymn, “Love Divine”. The commissioning and benediction was followed by the singing of the response, “Go Now In Peace”. Everyone was invited for coffee and treats and fellowship before going home.
