The TD Summer Reading Club is
starting up again throughout
Huron County and this year’s
theme guarantees to get children
going.
Run by organizers Courtney
McDonald and Lisa Miller, the
program brings fun books and
activities to local libraries
throughout the summer starting July
2 and running for eight weeks,
ending on Aug. 23.
Children aged 4 to 12 are welcome
to the event which is free at most
locations.
The theme for the summer is
“Go!” McDonald said, and the
individual days have miniature
themes like “Go into your mind”,
“Travel in Style” and “Go into outer
space.”
McDonald, who organized the
program last year, is joined by
Miller, who has some ties to the
program.
“Lisa attended the program when
she was younger and her sister was
also a coordinator of it in the
past,” she said. “The program
has been going for more than 15years.”McDonald said she is excited
about the books being featured this
year and also said that, aside from
sharing books, children can find out
what they should be reading
throughout the summer.
“We read many books in the club
and the children are provided with a
book list of age appropriate
materials they can find in their local
library,” McDonald explained in an
e-mail to The Citizen. “For books we
read together during the program we
choose a large variety of historical,
fiction, poetry and comical
stories.”
Some of the specific books being
read are:
• I Know Here by Laurel Croza
and Matt James
• My Name is Yoon by Helen
Recorvits.
• Let’s Go! The Story of Getting
From There to Here by Lizann Flatt
• The Lorax by Dr. Seuss
• Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel
Silverstein
• Pluto Visits Earth by Steve
Metzger
• Aliens Love Underpants by
Claire Freedman and Ben Cort• Purple, Green and Yellow byRobert Munsch

Clinton from 1 to 2 p.m. and from 2
to 3 p.m. It then moves to Seaforth
and runs from 3:30 p.m. until

Several hundred Anglicans from
nearly 200 congregations gathered in
London on Sunday, May 26 for the
Annual Synod of the Diocese of
Huron.
The focus on day one, was the
traditional Eucharistic celebration in
historic St. Paul’s Cathedral. For the
first time ever, the Synod service
featured the presentation of an
Honorary Degree. As part of the
150th anniversary celebration at
Huron University College, the
institution presented a Doctor of
Divinity (jure dignitatis) to the Right
Reverend Dr. Sitembele Tobela
Mzamane, Bishop of the Diocese of
Mthatha in South Africa.
For nearly a decade the Bishop's
diocese has enjoyed a companion
relationship with Huron. Several
groups from Huron have travelled to
South Africa and we have been
pleased to host many people from
Mthatha.
The business of Synod continued
Monday and Tuesday at the London
Convention Centre, beginning with a
Charge to Synod by the Right
Reverend Robert Bennett.
The Diocese of Huron stretches
from Tobermorey to Lake Erie and
from Windsor to Waterloo.
