PeeWee Tigers win gold in Mitchell ball tournament
The Brussels Peewees Tigers took
part in the annual Mitchell Fastball
tournament, which included more
than 90 teams, this past weekend.
Brussels opened up the tournament
on last Thursday evening with a
convincing 14-0 win over
Shakespeare. Their success
continued on Saturday with wins
over Owen Sound (10-0) and
Shallow Lake (8-1).
Finishing first in their pool, they
moved on to face Tavistock and
came away with an 8-1 victory. In
the championship game they took to
the rain soaked diamond against
Glencoe. The Tigers took an early
lead with good bats and strong
pitching from Wyatt Machan.
Glencoe battled back in the last
inning forcing extra innings.
Mitchell McKee scored from third to
get the winning run as the Tigers
won a thrilling 12-11 game.
Coaches Gary Pipe, Jeff Newell
and Scott Johnston were very
impressed with the team’s intelligent
offence, stymie defence and
composure under pressure.
Contributions from all team
members were integral to their
success.
The team is comprised of Connor
Bridge, Nolan Johnston, Logan
Kellington, Wyatt Machan, Mitchell
McKee, Dylan MacNeil, Bennett
Newell, Jack Pipe, Jarron
Thompson, Mitchell Ward, Jasmine
Vader, and Kailey Wheeler.
The PeeWee team’s next home game
is Wednesday, June 12 at the
Brussels Optimist Ball Park at 7
p.m.

The Wingham Golf and Curling
Club bid farewell to the cold wet
month of May and is looking
forward to the summer months.
On Tuesday, May 28 the rain
forced the ladies to cancel their golf
plans, but 28 of the girls still got
together in the dining lounge for
some games of fun, followed by
supper.
The Wednesday senior men had
19 golfers on a cool drizzly
morning. Doug Vanderwoude was
the big winner for the day claiming
both low gross and low net. Glenn
McMichael took home second with
Jeff Lockridge, third. Ray Walker
was winner of the longest putt.
The Thursday night men had 77
golfers hit the links on a beautiful
golf night. Don Edgar fired a sizzling
one under 34 to claim low gross. The
closest to the pin winners were Don
Bone and Trevor Hopf with Tony
Barr, Bill Robinson, Wayne Gordon,
Dan McBurney and Ed Collinson
receiving the prizes for longest putts.

On Saturday, June 1 the club was
pleased to help Mr. and Mrs. Don
Taylor celebrate their 50th wedding
anniversary. The 35 family members
and friends enjoyed a ham and roast
beef buffet in the dining lounge.
This coming Friday, June 7 is the
monthly golf and wing night.
The doctor recruitment golf and
fundraiser are still looking for teams
for their annual tournament on
