One limousin 4-H Club holds first meetin By Marion Studhalter On May 6, the Huron County Goat 4-H club had its first meeting of 2013. The meeting opened with introductions that included six eager new members. This year's club leaders are Amy Vingerhoeds and Ursina Studhalter. The meeting was held on the Vingerhoeds' meat Boer goat farm. The club's first activity involved brainstorming different housing methods for goats. Among the discussed methods were loose housing and small pens. The Vingerhoed farm provided excellent examples of different housing structures from an old bank barn to a new state-of-the-art barn. The new barn was built last year and currently houses about 100 meat does and their offspring. The club was shown a prime meat goat to help them understand what judges look for in the project goats they will be training for this year's achievement day show in September. Afterwards cookies and juice were served as the club voted for this year's officials. The results were: Nicole Vingerhoeds as president, Ward Verschaeve as vice-president, Myah Vingerhoeds and Kaitlin Gerretsen as secretaries, Marion Studhalter as news reporter and Tony Gerretsen as photographer. Before the meeting was closed important paperwork had to be filled out about the members' project goats. The next meeting will be May 27 at the Durands' farm.
