The members got to know each other by filling out a milk questionnaire and introducing themselves to other members. Leader Mary Ellen Foran then began the meeting with the pledge and introduced the other leaders Eileen George and Marita Oudshoorn.Mary Ellen then went over the clubrequirements and started the electionof officers. Ellen Jefferson was elected president; Hillary Schramm, vice-president; Maisy Jefferson, cover designer and Reba Jefferson, treasurer and press reporter. Eileen George then discussed the milk section of the Canada Food Guide and the importance ofcalcium. Members learned that inorder for milk to do its job andstrengthen bones it must be paired with vitamin D and strengthening exercises. Members then did a tally of all the milk products they had consumed that day and found their score, which told them if they were getting enough calcium for their age. Most members were right on target butone member had double their targetand another had much too low of ascore. The club then played a game of speed ball for some bone building exercise. After washing their hands, the club was divided into four groups to start their cooking. The groups made two kinds of smoothies: a Purple Dinosaur with ice cream and grape juice and the Wake and Shake whichincluded berries, bananas and flax. The club also made a chip dip withsour cream, tomatoes, chives and cheese, as well as nachos. The club then enjoyed their snack. Everything was a huge hit. President Ellen closed the meeting with the motto. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 23 at 5 p.m. at the Auburn Hall.
