Hullett annual spring concert a ‘fun, musical evening’
Hullett Central held their spring
concert on Tuesday, May 7. It was a
fun, musical evening and the pupils
from Kindergarten to Grade 4 did a
splendid job of entertaining an
audience of family members. The
classroom teachers and music
teacher, Sue Barnett, had
chosen and prepared the numbers
well.
The gymnasium was colourfully
decorated for spring with flowers
blooming everywhere, and bugs,
bees and butterflies flitting amongst
them on the walls. The Junior Kindergarten classsang and acted out a song about themonths of the year, mentioning the
specialness about each, e.g.
Valentine’s, Easter eggs, Halloween
and Santa. Kindergarten A and B
sang and acted about planting a
garden – the steps to follow and the
plants that resulted. Hot Cross Buns
was the interesting recorder number
played by the Grade 3/4 and 4
classes.
Grades 1 through 4 presented short
operetta about the character
attributes they focus on every month.
It was a lively presentation with
plenty of action and movement andsharing of roles. Small groups ofpupils came forward to identify eachattribute and tell what it meant and
then a song was sung to make it
interesting. The ‘moral of the story’
was that in order to be a good citizen,
one’s good character must embrace
home, school, community and
country.
By improving one’s character,
“We Can Build a Better World”, their
closing song. The playlet included a
short martial arts demonstration to
illustrate fighting fairly.
The character attribute receiving
attention at Hullett during May is
‘fairness – treating everyone in a justand accepting manner.’On Monday, May 6 Hullettparticipated in “Music Monday”
along with 600,000 people across
Canada. On the space station,
astronaut Chris Hadfield sang and
played on his guitar a song written in
collaboration with the Barenaked
Ladies. Schools could sing along
with Chris via webcast. This song,
“Is Someone Singing” was sung at
the end of the concert by the
Hullett pupils for the audience aswell. The Student Advisory Councilmembers and all volunteers are to be
commended for their successful
auction and fun night on May 3.
Thanks also to the community for
their generous support. The event
raised $18,000 for new eco-friendly
playground equipment. See what can
be accomplished when we all work
together.

PEOPLE AROUND LONDESBORO
Hot dogging
Jeremy Wilts was one member of the Grade 8 class from
Hullett Central Public School who helped put on a barbecue
at Greyhaven Gardens outside of Londesborough over the
weekend. The barbecue was a fundraiser for the class
graduation and year-end trip. (Denny Scott photo)
The sacrament of communion was
held at Londesborough United
Church on Mother’s Day, May 12.
Assisting Terry Fletcher with the
serving of the elements were Adrian
Salverda, Murray Adams, Helen
Lyons, Brenda Konarski, Grant
Bergsma and Carmen Drost.
Flowers on the memorial table that
morning were placed by Brenda
Radford and her sister, Bonnie
Horton, in memory of family
members. There was a bouquet on
the piano courtesy of the Maines
Family estate.
Other flowers in the sanctuary
were in memory of Kim Hunking
whose funeral was held on Friday,
May 10. Coincidentally I came
across a quote last week that spoke
to me about Kim –”May you live all
the days of your life.”
As a special treat a male quintet
favoured the congregation with two
numbers, “Each Man Is My Friend”
and “Praise the Lord, I Saw the
Light.”
When the children gathered at the
front, Terry remarked that as a child
he had wanted to have a really
important job when he grew up. He
thought it would be great to be a
police officer. The children listed
several other jobs that are important
to the world - firefighter, paramedic,
doctor, teacher, etc.
An important job the children
didn’t mention was that of a mother.
Terry noted that a mother does all
facets of her jobs because of love.
Mothers are an important part of all
our lives.
The senior choir will meet for
practice prior to the service on May

Last week in Hullett students had
the annual auction which was held
at the Blyth and District
Community Centre. The auction
was a huge success. During last
week they also had very busy
classes.
In the Grade 1 class, last week
there was lots of activity centred
around Mother’s Day. Grade 1
students read poems, wrote poems,
designed cards and created a craft in
a box, with a picture of mom.
They have also been learning
about some of the different crops
the farmers are planting just now.
Planting time is a busy time in our
rural community. In the computer
lab students created their own
puppet shows on the iPads and
shared them with the class on the
Smartboard screen.
That’s it for now. Tune in again
next week for Grade 1 happenings.
