FSCO Licence #11949 Brian R. Machan, CFP The subtle beginnings of self-indulgence! (J.R. Miller) We do many things which to our own eyes appear innocent and harmless--but which have in them a hidden evil which we cannot see. We indulge ourselves in many things which do not appear sinful to us--but which leave on our soul a touch of blight, and a soiling of purity--of which we do not dream! We permit ourselves many little habits in which we see no danger--but which are silently entwining their invisible threads into a strong cable which may some day bind us hand and foot! We spare ourselves self-denials and sacrifices, thinking there is no reason why we should make them, unaware that we are lowering our standard of holy living, and permitting the subtle beginnings of self-indulgence to creep into our hearts! “Blessed is the man who does not... walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers!” Psalm 1:1 A Grace Gem Submitted by: Immanuel United Reformed Church, Listowel, ON 519-291-1956 83341 CURRIE LINE - RR 3 BLYTH Owner: Gaye Datema 519-523-9407 COME AND SEE US THIS SEASON FOR ALL YOUR GARDENING PLANTS We are ready for another fantastic season. Purchase of ‘Gator’ raises eyebrows, divides councilThe purchase of a usedgroundskeeping vehicle proved to becontroversial at North Huron Township Council during their May 6 meeting.Director of Recreation andFacilities Pat Newson spoke regarding the issue as the vehicle would be used both by herdepartment and Public Works, explained that there had been funds set aside to provide grounds care equipment to meet several needs thateither weren't being fulfilledmunicipally or could be better met with new equipment. The unit, refered to as a “Gator” by several councillors, would do multiple jobs including dragging the baseball diamonds and making it easier and faster for staff to do things like inspect the campground. The unit, which started at $6,950 but was negotiated down to $6,250 has no chronometer or odometer to track its usage, but is a 2010 model. While there was some concern as to the need for the equipment, Newson explained that some of the work that it would be doing is work that has been handled by privately owned equipment. “It’s a new piece of equipment, not something to replace existing equipment,” Newson said. “However, for the last two years, a local resident has allowed us to use his equipment for some of the work we would use it for. That arrangement was based on certainconditions and, while it wasextremely generous, it might not continue. We need our equipment to do all the work on the walking trails as well as proper equipment to get down to them.” Councillor Bernie Bailey, who was originally interested in just which services this unit would be providing that weren’t already covered, asked why the municipality couldn’t maintain the relationship they had with the private citizen. Newson replied that she would “rather not get into that.” It was explained that the new unit was in the budget, however the cost was only supposed to be $5,000.
