students receive from exhibiting
their work.
When students are able to have
their work on display, it’s a
wonderful experience, Browne said.
The show helps kids see art as a
possible career.
Art is a two-way street, Brownesaid. Someone needs to look at it and
someone needs to communicate
something.
Some artists had ideas or dreams
when they created their work, some
didn’t. Some have intentions to
make people feel depressed, show
their dreams or life, but artists need
to be open to share their work,Browne said. The viewer may not
get the intended message but they
could get something else. Art
requires an open mind, she added.
At school, she said, the students’
work is graded, but with the gallery,
people are looking at the work and
appreciating it. It’s more
meaningful.Without the show some kids
wouldn’t be able to display their art,
said Evans.
The show gives students pride for
their work, Browne said. When you
see someone taking pleasure from
your work, it makes you happy, she
added.
At the gallery opening on May 2,
Mykayla Brubacker from ListowelDistrict Secondary School won first
place with her piece “Untitled”
using conté, pastel and charcoal.
Jordan Murray from CHSS came
in second with her acrylic piece
“Self Portrait at 17”.
The show runs in the Bainton
Gallery at Blyth Memorial Hall until
May 23.

Have a seat
The Blyth Public School graduating class of 2012 put its fundraising dollars towards
purchasing a new bench for Blyth Lions Park, a park that was purchased by the Lions 68 years
ago this month. When the school closed, the class had leftover fundraising money and
decided to put it back into the community. Dedicating the bench on Sunday were, from left:
