When students are able to have their work on display, it’s a wonderful experience, Browne said. The show helps kids see art as a possible career. Art is a two-way street, Brownesaid. Someone needs to look at it and someone needs to communicate something. Some artists had ideas or dreams when they created their work, some didn’t. Some have intentions to make people feel depressed, show their dreams or life, but artists need to be open to share their work,Browne said. The viewer may not get the intended message but they could get something else. Art requires an open mind, she added. At school, she said, the students’ work is graded, but with the gallery, people are looking at the work and appreciating it. It’s more meaningful.Without the show some kids wouldn’t be able to display their art, said Evans. The show gives students pride for their work, Browne said. When you see someone taking pleasure from your work, it makes you happy, she added. At the gallery opening on May 2, Mykayla Brubacker from ListowelDistrict Secondary School won first place with her piece “Untitled” using conté, pastel and charcoal. Jordan Murray from CHSS came in second with her acrylic piece “Self Portrait at 17”. The show runs in the Bainton Gallery at Blyth Memorial Hall until May 23. Show gives students confidence says Browne Have a seat The Blyth Public School graduating class of 2012 put its fundraising dollars towards purchasing a new bench for Blyth Lions Park, a park that was purchased by the Lions 68 years ago this month. When the school closed, the class had leftover fundraising money and decided to put it back into the community.
