Student Show awards local students’ art On May 2, students from the Avon Maitland and Huron Perth Catholic School Boards began displaying their art at the annual Blyth Festival Student Show 2013. For some, the show is a way to get involved in the community, but for the artists it could be a way to be discovered. Blake Evans, a Grade 12 student at Central Huron Secondary School (CHSS) in Clinton, contributed three pieces to the show in hopes of selling them. Feathers, Evans says, are his obsession and his art reveals that. His painting of a heart, dreamcatcher sculpture, and his small lamp all have feathers incorporated. Evans says the show will give people a chance to see his work, but also give him an opportunity beyond publicity. In addition to allowing him to sell some of his work to those in attendance, Evans says he will get the rare chance to see art created by students from other schools. The show is a great way to see other perspectives through the students’ art work, Evans says, and learn about the different mediums they’re using. Laura Browne, art teacher at CHSS, has been involved with the student show for more than 12 years Mother’s Day Sunday, May 12th FAMILY RESTAURANT Mon. to Sat. 6:30 am - 8 pm; Sunday 7 am - 8 pm Brunch:Hot and Cold Buffet with dessert bar ~ 10 am - 2 pm Reservations Appreciated Dinner Special:Chicken Cordon Bleu served with potato, vegetable, soup & dessert ~ 4 pm - 7:30 pm • Gas Bar • Variety • Bakery 38527 Blyth Rd., Auburn 519-526-7373 Friends and family are invited to a BUCK & DOE for Kyle Courtney and Michelle Cook Friday, May 10 8 pm - 1 am Seaforth Community Centre • Age of Majority Tickets $5 advance/$10 at door For tickets call Brittany 519-955-1125 Buck & Doe for Scott Armstrong & Kaitlyn Toll Brussels Morris & Grey Community Centre, Brussels Saturday, May 11 9 pm - 1 am Age of Majority For tickets call Brandon Blake 519-440-2208, Erin Moore 519-357-0188 or tickets available at door Buck n’ Doe Saturday, May 18 for Chris Riley & Candice Ross BMG Community Centre, Brussels 9 pm - 1 am Age of majority Tickets $7 Advance/$9 at door For tickets call Nicole Noble 519-887-8261 MOTHER’S DAY BRUNCH & DINNERBrunch $18.99 ~ 11 am - 2:30 pm Includes hot buffet, soup, salad and dessert bar coffee and tea Dinner Buffet $21.99 ~ 4:30 - 7:30 pm Includes hot buffet, soup, salad and dessert bar Regular menu also available Fireside Café 86348 LONDON RD., WINGHAM 519-357-4484 FREE PIZZA WINNER This month’s winner of a large 4-item pizza from 422 Queen St., Blyth ~ 519-523-4303 is Shawn Reinink of RR 4, Walton Thank you for subscribing to The Citizen Blyth 519-523-4792 or Brussels 519-887-9114 Entertainment Leisure& Well done Central Huron Secondary School’s Jordan Murray, above left, received recognition for her artistic talent and her piece Self Portrait at 17 at the Blyth Festival Student Show which opened last week.
