Student Show awards local students’ art
On May 2, students from the Avon
Maitland and Huron Perth Catholic
School Boards began displaying
their art at the annual Blyth Festival
Student Show 2013.
For some, the show is a way to get
involved in the community, but for
the artists it could be a way to be
discovered.
Blake Evans, a Grade 12 student at
Central Huron Secondary School
(CHSS) in Clinton, contributed three
pieces to the show in hopes of
selling them.
Feathers, Evans says, are his
obsession and his art reveals that.
His painting of a heart, dreamcatcher
sculpture, and his small lamp all
have feathers incorporated.
Evans says the show will give
people a chance to see his work, but
also give him an opportunity beyond
publicity.
In addition to allowing him to sell
some of his work to those in
attendance, Evans says he will get
the rare chance to see art created by
students from other schools.
The show is a great way to see
other perspectives through the
students’ art work, Evans says, and
learn about the different mediums
they’re using.
Laura Browne, art teacher at
CHSS, has been involved with the
student show for more than 12 years
