As so often happens we have gone
from wet and cold to hot and hurry –
hurry to get the lawn rolled and cut
so we can cuss about the dandelions,
hurry to get the crops planted, hurry
to get the gardens ready and theplanters planted, hurry to wash thewinter grime off the windows, etc. There seems to be no easing into the
warm season. The spring flowers
have just burst onto the scene and the
field are a rich shade of green.
Although Hudson Scott Smith
made his appearance a few days
earlier than expected, big sister,
Macy, is excitedly telling everyone
about her little brother. Hudson was
born Monday, April 29 and is no
doubt keeping Mom and Dad, Matt
and Dawn, busy.
The first long weekend of the
summer, the Victoria Day weekend,
is fast approaching.Lorne and Geraldine Dale aremoving into Clinton come June 1and Lorne is having a garage sale on
the May 18. An apartment will just
not accommodate a lifetime of house
and shed living. So if you are doing
a little redding up after a long winter,
perhaps you might consider setting
up a table or two that day as well.
The community was devastated to
learn on the weekend that Kim
Hunking had passed away. She had
been courageously fighting a very
aggressive form of multiple
myeloma since last fall. The
community extends deepest
condolences to her family andfriends. Please keep this youngfamily in your prayers as theystruggle to come to terms with their
loss.
Lawrence and Karen Bergsma
presented their daughter, Courtney
Marie, for baptism at
Londesborough United Church on
Sunday, May 5. Along with regular
congregants a large number of proud
extended family and friends were on
hand to witness this first step in
Courtney’s faith journey.
The Sacrament of Holy
Communion will be observed at
Londesborough United on Mother’s
Day, May 12.The official board ofLondesborough United will meet onMay 28 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Congratulations to the school
council for its hard work at the
auction and fun fair held on Friday,
May 3. It was an extremely
successful event. Thanks also to the
community who supported this
event with such generosity. It is
amazing what we can accomplish
working together.
In the kindergarten class last week
students were continuing to watch
the construction outside. Perhaps if
they are lucky they might have a
construction worker in their class in
the future.
Along with watching the
construction, students were
investigating the number seven.
Kindergarten students might be the
perfect ones to talk to if you need to
know anything about the lucky
number seven.
These students also wrote about
what they wanted to be when they
grew up in their journal. Taylor
wants to be a dragon when he grows
up. Mikayla wants to be a doctor and
I think there might be a future
construction worker in the class.
In the Grade 2/3 class last week
they enjoyed making some Mother’s
Day items. Grade 2/3 was also very
excited to be able to listen to Eric
Wilson and the Blues Music
Festival. In math they focused on
cents.

Hullett Central Public School had
the opportunity to have one of the
most successful writers in Canada
visit. Eric Wilson writes mystery
stories for children and his books are
published in 10 different languages.
He has sold over 1.5 million books
in Canada alone. His presentation
was very interesting and students
had lots of questions. On behalf of
the school we would like to thank
Eric for coming. A great man once
said, “Write to be understood, Speak
to be heard, Read to grow.”

The Grade 7/8 class said a sad
goodbye to Miss Reid, our student
teacher. Miss Reid you will be sadly
missed by the class and everyone
who played flag football. Grade 7/8
students finished their memoir unit
and experimented with six world
memoirs just for fun. We challenge
you to pick up your pen and try to
condense a “memoir-worthy event”
into just six words. It isn’t that easy.
The class also finished its dance
unit. Anyone driving by the school
this past week probably saw students
twirling and spinning across the
grass. For their final project students
had to pick an interesting group of
people, research their culture and
then create a dance based on their
traditional dance moves.
The Grade 8 students are having a
fundraiser barbecue. Proceeds will
go towards graduation and Camp
Celtic. The barbecue is on Saturday
May 11 at the Greyhaven Gardens
from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Please come
out and enjoy a hot dog to support
the Grade 8 students.
That’s all for this week folks, see
you later.

Hello, everyone Ben here. On
Thursday, April 25, the Foundation
for Enriching Education Perth
Huron sponsored by an all-day
presentation about pyramids by Mr.
Bill Farnell, for the Grade 4/5 class.
Mr. Farnell shared with us a cross-
curricular study of these amazing
wonders. Students began with
research, questioning and
investigation about the who, what,
where, when, why and how about
pyramids, even though the answer to
so many of our questions was –
researchers still don’t know.
Students also learned how to plot
co-ordinates as they recreated the
Eye of Horus. They then studied
angles and conducted experiments
about moving a load over different
surfaces and inclines to get a better
understanding of what the Egyptians
had to encounter moving millions of
limestone blocks.
Finally, they also examined how
symmetry is an important part of
Egyptian art and learned how to
create their own Egyptian
masterpieces.
Tenth annual spring fun fair
a success after move to Blyth
Community welcomes some, bids farewell
They’re all in
Justin Kerr, left, and Kal McNichol put their money where
their mouths are, or rather, where teacher Leeanne
Middleton’s mouth was on Friday night as Hullett Central
Public School held its 10th annual fun fair and auction at the
Blyth and District Community Centre. The pair played some
roulette and thought when it was all said and done,
Middleton would be the lucky choice. (Vicky Bremner photo)
