Rural infrastructure in Ontario
received a huge boost when the
provincial government announced a
$100 million investment on April
26. Available October 1, 2013, the
new investment plan will help small,
rural and Northern municipalities
build roads, bridges and other
critical infrastructure development
throughout 2013-2014.
Investments in rural infrastructure
have been a high priority on the
Ontario Federation of Agriculture’s
(OFA) political agenda, including
recommendations in recent pre-
budget consultations. The OFA
looks forward to further details on
this investment fund in the coming
weeks
“There’s no better time to
appreciate investments in rural roads
and bridges than springtime in
Ontario,” says Mark Wales, OFA
president. “Farmers and rural
Ontarians welcome this meaningful
investment in rural Ontario that will
make travel across our roads easier
while supporting local economies
and construction jobs at the same
time.”
Infrastructure investments are
important in Ontario, especially in
rural areas where roads and bridges
are heavily travelled by farm
vehicles and agricultural equipment.
And many of those roads and
bridges are in need of repair. OFA
has been pushing the provincial
government for investments to
ensure rural Ontarians have access
to well-maintained roadways and
bridges. Wales says he’s pleased
with this announcement because,
“investments in rural Ontario,
especially agriculture and
infrastructure, will pay dividends.”
The Ontario Federation of
Agriculture (OFA) is the largest
accredited general farm
organization in Ontario. As a
dynamic farmer-led organization
based in Guelph, the OFA works to
represent and champion the interests
of Ontario farmers through
government relations, farm policy
recommendations, lobby efforts,
community representation, media
relations and more. OFA is the
leading advocate for Ontario’s
farmers and is Ontario’s voice of the
farmer.
