The Brussels branch of the Huron
County Library recently transitioned
into the library of the Brussels
Business and Cultural Centre in the
former Brussels Public School
Building and Huron County Branch
Services Librarian Jennifer
Zoethout says the transition has
been without any major issues.
“It’s all been very seamless,” she
said.
The move will result in several
months of the library offering all of
its previous services from the new
location while major renovations are
completed on the Brussels Library,
according to Zoethout. However, as
with any construction project,
pinning down an exact completion
date could be difficult.
“It all really depends on how well
the renovations go,” she said. “The
municipality believes the project
will be done in a few months, but, as
with any project, there could always
be delays. It may be sooner or it may
be later, so we’re just taking it week
by week.”
The new location offers
everything the old location did
including wireless access and the
same hours and Zoethout said that
even the amount of storage is
similar.
“The space is fairly comparable,
but we did have to store some books
at the administration office [outside
of Clinton],” she said. “However,
when the new branch opens there is
going to be a lot more space.”
Having the space was a boon
according to County Librarian
Meighan Wark.
“We were lucky to have the
location at the Brussels Business
A variety of weather to keep
everyone guessing. Spring or not
spring, that is the question. A mix of
rain, snow, cool winds, sunny days,
cold and frosty nights. Pretty well
covering everything we could have.
Farmers are getting anxious to get
on the land. A year ago, corn was
being planted and lots of ground had
been worked.
Catching up with the folks around
Walton, Howard Hackwell is at
home and hopes that the better
weather will make him feel better.
Valerie Shortreed had eye surgery
and is out and about. Clint Emmrich
is at home recovering from surgery.
Margery Huether is still a patient in
London. Barry Engel is a patient in
Seaforth Hospital. Les Glanville is a
patient in Wingham Hospital and is
expected home this week. Kay
Hesselwood has had shoulder
surgery and will soon be in Clinton.
We are glad to see Rod Fritz is out
and about and doing well. Bob
Cunningham is a patient in Listowel
Hospital and we hope he is home
soon.
A good crowd attended the buck
and doe for Curtis Ryan and Lauren
Snell. It was held in Seaforth on
Saturday evening. The couple will
be wed in July.
The Walton Hall Board ladies
were busy this week. They spent
every night at the hall giving it a
spring cleaning. Walls, windows,
floors, cupboards and dishes have all
been washed, ready for the spring
rental season. A good job wascompleted by Judy Lee, Jo-AnnMcDonald, Barb Durrell and JudyEmmrich.
The hall was rented on Sunday for
a birthday celebration. Steve and
Nicole Bernard hosted a small
birthday party for their two children.
Katharine turns two and Justin turns
one shortly. There were 25 family
and friends on hand to have a
visit and a little fun. They enjoyed
a barbecued supper to end the
day.
Chris Lee and grandson Caden
Lee attended a Toronto Blue Jays
game on Friday. They went in time
to watch batting practice before the
game and Caden had taken his
glove, hoping to catch a fly ball.
Chris was sitting back a few
rows watching Caden and all of a
sudden a ball came down and
bounced right into Chris’s lap.
Caden was excited to get the ball
from Grandpa and have his picture
taking with a ball at the Rogers
Centre.
Neil McDonald has arrived for his
yearly spring visit. He has a home
in Bayfield but will be seen around
the farm and Walton many times
over the course of the next couple of
weeks.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week were Patty Banks, Blair
Fraser, Edward Glanville, Heather
Godkin, Katharine Bernard, Clara
Blake, Betty Jane Gill, Betty
McCallum, Mandy Mitchell,
Dennis Rijkhoff, Danielle
Williamson, Stan McClure, Gail
Searle, Sheldon Courtney, Darrell
McClure, Amanda Morrison, Jeff
McKee and Avery Boven. Happy
birthday to all.
