(Photo submitted) By Jo-Ann McDonald Happy Easter from Brussels Legion Branch to everyone with hopes you enjoyed the time with your families. The week started on Monday evening with the Lions Club holding a meeting. They celebrated March by wearing the green. The 24 in attendance enjoyed a roast beef dinner catered by Mary Bradshaw, Judy Lee and Jo-Ann McDonald. The Friday night supper was not held last week because of Good Friday. This week will be ham and scalloped potatoes. The Branch held the executive and general meeting on Tuesday evening. There were seven Comrades present. Branch Service Officer, Mabel Glanville reported that the Provincial Service Officer, Randy Groundwater will be in the area sometime between May 12 and 18. Veterans wishing to make an appointment to meet with Mr. Groundwater, need to contact Comrade Mabel by April 25 at 519- 887-9086. Reports from the various chairmen were discussed. Spring is a time for housecleaning and Comrade Glenn has been busy cleaning the office. Ads will be placed in the paper calling for grass cutting tenders. Discussions about renovating the downstairs ladies’ washroom and other problems were discussed. Comrade Glenn will talk to contractors. The upcoming bake sale and luncheon were discussed and a committee of Sandra, Lisa, and Jo-Ann will look after it. Comrade Marg Bennett is helping with contacting members about baking donations and take this as your reminder, all members, to bring baked goods to the Branch Saturday morning opening at 8:30 a.m. The Thursday night darts had a dozen players hoping to be winners. Winners were: first, Roger McHardy and Sandra Josling; second, Wayne Smith and Sharon Robbins; high, Jim Brown, 133 and Sandra, 125. The Branch was busy with the first fish fry of the season on Good Friday. They cooked for the Seaforth Curling Club and served over 200 for the dinner. Cooking for the Branch were Rick, Jo-Ann and LeeAnn McDonald, Ken and Linda Bird and Judy Lee. All went very well for the first time out. At the Branch PSO Groundwater in Brussels May 12-18 Easter marks many changes Happy Easter. I hope you had a fine time with your family and friends. The Easter weekend, no matter the weather, is a great time for celebration. Special music at churches, flowers and eggs for decoration and bountiful food remind us of the promise of beauty of Easter. The promise of spring with new life and new growth makes Easter special. The joy of regularly meeting with family is to observe the different stages of life that come to pass. And so for me watching the sons grow into the comfort of parenthood and the grandchildren skip through the growth stages is a blessing. From diapers to running, from childhood to college and from self interest to community involvement the growth and development of each child puts it front and centre that life is a continuum and it’s for us to observe, partake and enjoy. So I hope you had a good time as you celebrated with those you love. Faith is a big part of dealing with death. Doreen Stewart died last week. Doreen lived in Cayuga and was Cora Alcock and Adam Smith’s sister and a twin to Pauline, who is married to my brother Bill. When people are gravely ill, it’s hard for the loved ones to handle the time and the news and only time can help them. It’s during those times when you wishfully want to help those you care about. The hard part is that all you can do is hope and pray. So to all who are grieving and hurting, let your friends know if they can do something for you. It might just help both of your hurts. Death is part of life, but it is one part that can get pretty fragile or complicated. University and college acceptances are on the minds of many in our young set at this time. Life changes are in limbo as the next level of education is being determined. Career paths are in waiting, impending moves are on hold and the anxiety level can be fragile. Soon, very soon the good news will come and life is on the road again. So enjoy these snow covered days of spring and be kind to yourself and all the others in your company. Life needs to be celebrated. Bye now, Betty G.W. NEWS FROM BRUSSELS By Betty Graber Watson Call 887-9231 A NOTE FROM BETTY
