By Linda Campbell Call 357-2188 PEOPLE AROUNDBELGRAVE NEWS FROM BELGRAVE Alpaca farmers share story of growing farm to WI Huron East Council has denied funding in the amount of $100 for the Elementary School Fair, formerly the Belgrave, Blyth and Brussels School Fair. After council had approved its first slate of grant applications earlier this year, the fair requested $100. Several councillors felt that while the fair was a good event, they questioned the Huron East participation in it. With the closure of Brussels Public School, councillors felt there would be no Huron East students participating in the fair. Councillor Bill Siemon went a step further, saying that as time has gone on and fair participation has dwindled, that perhaps it was time that some of the smaller fairs began to die out. The Elementary School Fair, being managed with a new executive, is set to take place on Sept. 11, 2013. By Shawn Loughlin The Citizen HE nixes school fair grant Morris-Turnberry Council has decided to maintain a 7:30 p.m. Starting time for its meetings. The council is one of the few in the county that still start at such a late time. Councillor Jamie McCallum brought forward a motion that council consider starting at 7 p.m. To help end sessions sooner during the group’s March 5 meeting. Council, however, was not at full strength with several members missing, so the idea was held until their March 19 meeting when the idea found little traction. Deputy-Mayor Jason Breckenridge stated that, while he would be fine starting at 7 p.m. In the winter, during the farming seasons, he believed it just wouldn’t work. He also said that he didn’t think council meetings would end any sooner. Councillors Jamie Heffer, David Baker, John Smuck and Neil Warwick agreed, stating 7:30 p.m. was fine and even going so far as to suggest that a later time may be more appropriate.
