guilty of

Judge R.G.E. Hunter ordered
Perry Irvine of Gorrie to pay a
$1,000 fine in association with a
Feb. 17 incident on March 21 in
Wingham court.
Crown Attorney Laura Grant said
that on Feb. 17, Irvine was driving a
truck hauling an ATV in North
Huron around 7:30 p.m. when
police observed the vehicle he was
driving cross the centre line. Police
initiated a traffic stop, she said, and
they reported noticing a strong
odour of alcohol coming from the
driver. When asked, Irvine admitted
to consuming alcohol that night,
Grant said.
Irvine failed the roadside test and
was arrested and brought back to the
Wingham Police station where he
registered 104 milligrams of alcohol
in 100 millilitres of blood.
Irvine pled guilty to the charge of
operating a vehicle with over 80
milligrams of alcohol in 100
millilitres of blood. In addition to
the mandatory $1,000 fine Irvine
was handed a 12-month driving
prohibition, which could be reduced
to three months if he chooses to take
advantage of the Interlock program,
which he said he planned on doing.
If so, Hunter said, he will have to
pay the fine within 90 days.
UTTERING THREATS
David Dietz of Gorrie pled guilty
to one count of uttering threats in
association with an event that took
place on Dec. 17, 2012.
Grant said that Dietz was at a
residence on Dec. 17 around 1 p.m.
when Dietz’s niece came down the
stairs to see one of Dietz’s friends
there. An argument began, Grant
said, and Dietz’s friend was asked to
leave. It was at this point, she said,
that Dietz became angry with the
situation and claimed that he would
shoot everyone in the house and
then burn the house down.
Duty Counsel Lynn Johnston said
that the Canadian Mental Health
Association has become involved
with the case and that Dietz already
served “a few days” in custody as a
result of the incident.
Johnston said she felt a 12-month
probation term was appropriate.
Grant, however, was seeking a
three-year term of probation and a
suspended sentence.
Hunter suspended the passing of a
sentence and placed Dietz on
probation for 18 months.
NO LICENCE
Natasha Diemert of Wroxeter pled
guilty to driving without a valid
driver’s licence, based on a charge
from Nov. 14, 2012.
The incident took place in North
Huron and the charge carries a set
fine of $100 plus the surcharge,
which she was given three months
to pay.
Diemert had a charge of
possession of an illegal substance
withdrawn by the crown attorney as
a result of the completion of a
diversion program.
COUNTY OF HURONMUNICIPAL CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR THE REHABILITATION OF THREE BRIDGES
NOTICE OF COMPLETION
THE PROJECT:
The County of Huron is planning to carry out repairs to three structures located in the northern part of the County
(as illustrated in the accompanying key plans). The first structure, Dane’s Bridge is located on County Road (CR) 7
(Howick Turnberry Road) north of Gorrie. The second structure, Clegg’s Bridge is located on CR 16 (Morris Road)
southeast of Belgrave. The third structure, the Auburn Bridge, is located on CR 25 (Blyth Road) immediately west
of Auburn. All three structures span the Maitland River or one of its tributaries.
The rehabilitation project for all three bridges would involve the replacement/repair of deteriorated bridge
components including concrete repairs to the bridge decks, replacement of existing concrete railings with solid
concrete barriers or parapet walls for the Clegg’s and Dane’s bridges, and repair of the Auburn Bridge railings. At
this time, it is proposed that each of the three bridge rehabilitation projects would be completed during the 2013
construction season. The affected road sections would remain open during the construction period; however, lane
restrictions would be necessary.
