Midget team takes OMHA gold Some very nice hardware is now in Brussels and Blyth around the necks of our hard-working Midget team. Their winning game was on Sunday against Belmont in the C division. Lessons about teamwork, a good attitude and hard work will stay with our young men when they think back on the year they won. Good job guys, you deserve to wear the medal from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association with pride in how you handled your many games this year. For folks concerned about our villages combining sports team this is a good example that worked. Thanks men. The spring Optimist party was another good one. Good food, good company and lots of great things to bid on. Jeff and Cathy Cardiff and their efficient crew did their good cooking for the benefit of the crowd. Silent auction, tickets and bidding on articles got the money out of pockets to be shared. Murray McArter and Don Sholdice make a good duo to loosen cash from the party people, as they were tempted by water heaters, purses, gravel, chairs, quilts and food. Great selection from some very generous people who support the way the club supports community. If you’re looking for an auctioneer in the future, give Dale Finch a call. She’s at the beginning of the auctioneer learning curve and if Crusher keeps coaching, she may just make it to Optimist Club calibre. Results of the recent Majestic WI euchre party were: high lady, Dona Knight; low lady, Elunid McNair; high man, Edna McLellan (playing as a man); low man, Allan Edgar; lone hands, ladies’, Judy Hahn, Phyllis Mitchell; men’s, Jim Knight; lucky tally, Viola Adams, Fannie Somers, Bob Smith. We’re into Holy Week now. The end of Lent is in sight and the celebration of Easter is fast approaching. Family and friends gather to renew this time of resurrection. For Christians, Easter is the time of great joy, a time to know that life is everlasting and so celebrations take place in churches in our area. Sights like spring bulbs peeping through the mulch and buds seen on bushes and trees, new baby goats and many other things remind us that death is not the end of life. It’s a new beginning. Don’t forget to go to Brussels United on Saturday morning for your Easter treats, you’ll be glad you did. So enjoy the long weekend and celebrate new beginnings in your life. Happy Easter! Betty G.W.
