Beckett John Noble was
introduced to the congregation at
Brussels United Church on Sunday
as the sacrament of baptism was
celebrated. Parents Mike and Nicole
looked on as Beckett verbally
responded to their words in response
to Pastor Sandra Cable. Using one of
the fans as his focus, Beckett’s
language was for his ears only but it
sure was clear he was telling
someone something. It seemed as if
he needed his opinion put on record
as well. Grandma Ruth and Grandpa
Murray Lowe just smiled in
agreement.
Speaking of Murray, I hope you
got to pop in and congratulate him
on his long-term occupation. Holy
cow – 50 years in one occupation,
with the same boss. Statistically I
think we average seven different jobsin our lifetime. Murray’s 50 years asa licensed barber is certainly an occasion to be celebrated. ThanksMurray for being in Brussels to startso many of our sons on the need of a good haircut.Enjoy these last days of March.Bye now, Betty G.W.

Legion hosts farmers’ meeting
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It was a busy week at the Brussels
Legion Branch. The week started
with Pioneer Dupont – Brett and
Laura Fischer hosting a meeting for
area farmers. They had three
speakers address issues concerning
the challenges facing today’s farmer.
They conducted the meeting during
the morning and then enjoyed lunch.
The Cadets did not meet because
of March Break.
The Thursday night darts had a
dozen darters taking aim at the
boards. Winners were: first, Sheron
Stadelmann and Sandra Josling;
second, Gord Jacklin and Deb Cann;
high, John Stadelmann, 117.
The Friday night supper had a
good crowd of 40 enjoy roast pork.
This week will be lasagna.
Congratulations to Ron Schmidt
who participated at provincial darts
at Port Credit on the weekend. He
played single darts and he admits to
a slow start, but improved as the day
progressed, but not well enough to
advance. He enjoyed his day and the
chance to represent Branch 218.
Congratulations to Blyth member,
John Verwey, who captured the
singles title and will advance to play
at Dominion level in Nova Scotia.
The Branch held a St. Patrick’s
wings, fries and meat draws on
Saturday evening. The cooks in the
kitchen were comrades Glenn
Bridge and Deb Cann, who cooked
up over 400 wings for the steady
crowd. The meat draws were looked
after by Comrades Catrina Josling
and Murray Cardiff. It was a good
night.
The County Challenge for darts
was hosted by Branch 218 on
Sunday afternoon. The day was
looked after by Comrades Bob
Richardson for darts, Comrade
Monica Richardson at the bar and
Comrade Daisy Schmidt for the
food. They had about 18 players
taking part and had a good day.

halfway across the water when it
began to take on water and sank. The
driver managed to swim back to
shore; he was not injured. The snow
machine was to be recovered on
March 18.
The driver from Elora was
