Continued from page 7received.”Vincent stated that the group alsomet with Minister of Economic
Development, Trade and
Employment Eric Hoskins and saidthat the meeting was veryencouraging.“In the meeting with Hoskins, he
said that he was extremely interested
in our new strategic plan,” he said.“Not having it done by an outsideagency and it being something thatwe worked on long and hard by
ourselves was interesting to him. He
made the commitment that he would
read it word for word and I’m sure
he will.”
The last meeting was with the
Minister of Community Safety,
Madeleine Meilleur and Vincent
said it was a very good meeting.
He also explained that he had met
with Meilleur previously, so he
was able to bring her up to date on
issues.
“It was a very good meeting and
we were able to fill her in on what
we have done in the past year,” he
said, adding that they discussed the
Emergency Services Training Centre
in Blyth at length.“Seeing that we had progressed, and that a number of things weremoving forward towards regional
training centres, she was very
interested in the centre.”
Vincent said that he, Vodden and
Long also met with members of the
Ontario Fire Marshal’s office and
were working towards new
opportunities with them.
“We talked with them for about 40
minutes in regards to extra courses
that we could offer that are currently
not available anywhere else in
Ontario,” he said. “They are looking
at possibly developing a number of
new courses that we will be taking
the lead on, some of them, especially
in conjunction with the Fire
Marshal’s Office and the Ministry of
Labour, would be a big feather in ourcap.”He said that the programs createdwould be templates for programs
throughout the province.
Vincent also attended a seminar on
the deep-ground nuclear waste
storage facilities that some
municipalities like Morris-Turnberry
and Central Huron have previously
expressed interest in.
“It was interesting,” he said. “I’m
glad we’re not asking for it in North
Huron though.”
Vincent explained that the
presentation outlined that the
municipalities that do get the
facilities will be looking at 50 years
worth of radioactive material as a
maximum and will likely store 35 to
40 years worth of material.

Great Lakes was also discussed at
some length, reports Ginn.
During his monthly mayoral
address Ginn also reported on
attending a recent meeting
with Municipality of Bluewater
officials where the possibility of

Bayfield-area sewage treatment
plant was discussed.
