(Denny Scott photo Blyth Brussels TykeBlue takes trophy The Blyth Brussels Tyke Blue team was off to Lucknow on March 2 for their year-end tournament to defend their title as last year’s “A” side winners but Kincardine would have no part of that, defeating the Blyth Brussels squad by a score of 8-5. The loss sent the Blue team to the “B” side. The team won its way to the “B” finals against Wingham and despite a long day, the Tyke Blue squad came out flying. With another shutout the Blyth Brussels Team just kept pouring it on and skated away with a win and, of course, a nice big trophy. Big winners The Brussels Skating Club held its final day of activity and an awards ceremony late in February. Among the winners were, from left, Torrance Pennington-Vock who won the Skate Canada Spirit of Skating Award, Femke Backx who took home the Skate Canada Canskater of the Year Awards and Camryn Logan who won the Skate Canada Spirit of Skating Award. Absent that day were Jamie Newell, Hudson Smith and Austin Johnston who reached their level three gold status, halfway to the final level six gold status that marks the pinnacle of the system. (Denny Scott photo) Like a fish The Huron Hurricanes, a group of swimmers based in Huron East, sent six swimmers to the West Regional Championships held earlier in February at the Brantford Aquatic Centre. In order to compete at this level the swimmers had to first make qualifying times in earlier meets in order to be allowed to compete at the Championships against the top swimmers from across southwestern Ontario. Representing the Huron Hurricanes at the meet were; Paul McCauley, Jack DeFerrari, Natasha Dobos, Sabrina Dobos, Josephine Noel and Natalie VanNiejenhuis. The swimmers show off their top results against a tough field. From left to right; VanNiejenhuis eighth in both the 50-metre backstroke and 50-metre breast stroke, Sabrina Dobos with a seventh in the 50-metre freestyle and on the podium with a third place bronze medal in the 50-metre butterfly, and McCauley with a fifth in the 50-metre breaststroke.
