JOYCE EVELYN STORMONT
After and unexpected and
courageous battle with cancer, Joyce
Evelyn Stormont of Waterloo,
passed away peacefully at Freeport
Hospital in Kitchener on Feb. 22,
2013 with the grace and dignity with
which she lived her live.
Joyce will always be greatly loved
and sadly missed by her husband
George, her life partner for over 60
years. She was the loving mother of
Beth, Jim and Janice and her
husband Nigel Purvis and the special
grandmother to Evan, Miles and
Sean Purvis of whom she was very
proud. She will be greatly missed by
her close friends and neighbours,
both in Waterloo and Brussels.
Joyce graduated from the
Wellesley Hospital in Toronto, Class
of 1950 and remained dedicated to
her profession throughout her life.
Throughout her nursing career,
Joyce maintained long-lasting
friendships with her fellow

“Nifty Fifties”. Those friendships
lasted a lifetime. During her career

Conestoga College. After early
retirement, she volunteered for many
years with organizations committed
to health education of seniors in the
Region of Waterloo. She was a
charter member of the Women’s
Probus Club of Kitchener-
Westmount.
With her husband, she enjoyed
many quiet times at their farm,
“Glenogil” where she could read, do
crossword puzzles (in ink) or just sit
and watch the birds, the deer and the
sky.
Joyce had a quiet strength and
believed in her family. She always
made us feel special and that is
because she truly believed that we
were.
Joyce was predeceased by her
parents, Edith (Moore) and Bruce
Belford, stepmother Gladys, sister-
in-law Magdalene Horne and her
husband Arthur; close relatives
Evelyn and Scott Ferguson, May and
Don McCrea and Mary and Gordon
Moore.
The family wishes to give its
heartfelt appreciation and thanks to
all of mom and dad’s good friends
and neighbours in Waterloo for their
continuous, unwavering support
which was a tremendous help during
the difficult times.
We would also like to thank the
staff of all the caregiving agencies
who provided mom with a warm
circle of care these past few months.
At Joyce’s request, cremation has
taken place. Visitation will be held
from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday Feb. 28.
The memorial service will be held
on March 1 at 1 p.m. at the Erb &

The 99th Annual Mariners’
Service was held last Sunday at
Knox Presbyterian Church. Yes it
really was the 99th service and the
Harbouraires offered their singing at
59 of them. Talk about tradition. For
anyone with connections to working
with or on the water, this service
acknowledges this. The Great Storm
of November 1913, the most violent
storm to hit the Great Lakes killing
about 250 sailors remains one of the
horrors of our area and this service
reminds us yearly of the loss.
Pictures, books and model ships
made this an interesting and
educational evening.

of Prayer on Friday nearest you.
