There was never a dull moment in the game. After making the trip to Hensall to play the ever-strong BCH bunch on Sunday afternoon, the Novice Rep squad came out flying and soon the team had a 3-1 lead. Shortly after BCH tied the match 3-3 but with 1:35 left on the clock in the third period, the Blyth Brussels squad was able to earn another marker and take the lead. After fighting through a long 1:35, the Blyth Brussels squad came out on top with a 4-3 win. Previously the squad faced off against Kincardine, earning a 6-0 win on Feb. 16 and 3-2 over-time win on Feb. 21 in Tiverton to pit them against BCH in the next playouf round. The Novice Rep team is back in action on Saturday, March 2, when Mitchell visits Brussels. Blyth Brussels walked away with a near- shutout, scoring a 7-1 win. (Jim Brown photo) Intensity While they may appear down and out here, the Blyth Brussels Atom Girls squad certainly didn’t take their match against the Stratford Aces lying down. The home team managed a 1-1 tie when they faced off against Stratford in Blyth on Feb. 20. (Jim Brown photo) Midget Lightning take game one The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA took game one of their Lower Lakes West division semi-final by a 2-1 score over the Bluewater Hawks. The Lightning opened the scoring in the first period on a seeing-eye point shot from Jamie Simpson. Cassidy Colhoun did some great corner work and dumped the puck back to Simpson. The game was fast-paced and end-to-end for most of the remainder of the game but remained 1-0 due to some great saves at both ends of the ice from Lightning goaltender Shea Tiley and the Hawks’ netminder. Bluewater managed to tie it up mid-way through the third on a questionable wrap-around play. The gritty Lightning were not to be held to a tie, however, and scored the winner with under two minutes left in the game. Miranda Lantz lifted a rebound over the Bluewater goalie off another point shot from Kailyn Soers. Ashlee Lawrence earned the second assist. The series continues next Saturday in Strathroy with the third game in Teeswater on Sunday, if necessary.
