Church holding movie nights
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on the second
Sunday of Lent, Feb. 24 was Donna
Moore. Ushering was Hope Button.
Floyd Herman was music director
and Connor Brooks ran the power
point. Rev. Gary Clark reminded
everyone of the movie nights on Feb.
28 and March 7. Everyone is
welcome. Come at 6 p.m. and enjoy
soup and a bun before the movie. He
also reminded everyone that the
meat pie orders are sold out until
October.
The Food Bank is in need of Jello
and pudding powders, pie filling,
cake and muffin mixes, cans of
icing, canned fruit, peanut butter and
any kind of crackers including
gluten-free right now.
The call to worship was the
singing of two hymns, “Dance with
the Spirit” and “I am a Child of
God”. The prayer of confession and
the assurance of pardon was
followed by the singing of The
Lord’s Prayer. The scripture reading
was from Luke 13: 31-35. The
children were asked to come to the
front for their story time. The choir
sang a special piece of music. Rev.
Clark’s message to the adults was
“Sound Check”. The next hymn was
“Where Cross the Crowded Ways of
Life.” The offering was received
followed by the offertory response,
the offertory prayer, the prayers for
the people and silent prayers. The
last hymn was, “My Faith Looks Up
to Thee”. The commissioning and
benediction were followed by the
singing of the response, Go Now In
Peace.
During the service a plaque was
presented to Lorna Fraser and Terry
and Barb Richmond for their
dedicated services the past few
years. Everyone was invited down
to the auditorium for pizza,
salad and tarts before the annual
meeting.

deferred in NH
North Huron Council deferred the
passing of two new bylaws
regarding property maintenance
during its Feb. 19 meeting.
The bylaws, which, among other
things, control or prohibit grass
length, noxious weeds, derelict
vehicles and regular maintenance,
yard care and property maintenance,
were too heavy for some councillors
to be comfortable passing that night.
After the meeting, Deputy-Reeve
David Riach explained that, having
received a report regarding the
bylaws four days earlier, he wasn’t
comfortable enacting them.
“It’s a very lengthy report and we
hadn’t had enough time to study it
completely and review it to put
questions to Dave Black, the Chief
Building Official, about it,” he said.
“It was just too big a document to
pass that night as we had a very full
agenda.”
Riach explained that the bylaws
would come to council again at an
upcoming meeting.

NH council reduces rental fee
North Huron Township Council
agreed to reduce the cost of renting
a facility for Hullett Central Public
School by 50 per cent.
The school was seeking to rent the
Blyth and District Community
Centre on May 3 of this year to run
its annual School Spring Auction
and Carnival in order to raise funds
for the school and student materials.
Previously the event had been
held at the school but, with the
influx of students after the closure
of Blyth Public School, some events
are possibly going to be shifted to
larger sites to accommodate more
visitors including this event and
Grade 8 graduation.
Deputy Reeve David Riach stated
that the municipality had similar
arrangements with Blyth Public
School and that it made sense to
continue with an agreement like this
that benefits the students in Hullett.
“North Huron supports our
students and this is a continuation of
a practice of giving to the students
of Blyth,” he said after the meeting.
“So many of the students from Blyth
are going to Hullett, it’s good for us
to help them with their fundraising.”

He will sustain you!
(J.R. Miller)
“Cast your burden upon the LORD--and He will sustain you.” Psalm 55:22
The promise is not that the Lord will remove the load we cast upon Him, nor that
He will carry it for us--but that He will sustain us so that we may carry it. He does
not free us from the duty--but He strengthens us for it. He does not deliver us from
the conflict--but He enables us to overcome. He does not withhold or withdraw the
trial from us--but He helps us in trial to be submissive and victorious, and makes
it a blessing to us. He does not mitigate the hardness or severity of our
circumstances, taking away the difficult elements, removing the thorns, making
life easy for us--but He puts Divine grace into our hearts, so that we can live
sweetly in all the hard, adverse circumstances.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” 2
