HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2013-02-21, Page 17THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2013. PAGE 17. Muegge recounts career highlights with OMAFRAContinued from page 11problems, finding grant money andhelping community groups
make a difference, but the thing
she has enjoyed the most is the
people.
“The people is what I’m going to
miss,” she said. “The pleasure of
working with so many people from
so many different walks of life is
definitely something I’m going to
have to try to do in my retirement.
I’m also going to miss the
opportunity to continue to assist
people in learning.”
She also said she would miss the
opportunities her career gave her to
grow through continuing education.
“I took a lot of courses with
University of Guelph, the University
of Minnesota, volunteer
management certifications,
facilitation and training in conflict
resolution, economic development
certifications and other areas of
interest,” she said. “It was awesome
to do that and share and transfer it to
communities. It was great to pay itforward.”She also said that she enjoyed
leading workshops, facilitating for
groups like municipal amalgamation
organizations, OMAFRA groups,
other ministries, strategic planning
groups and various other kinds of
groups.
Muegge also worked in both
Bruce and Lambton Counties while
with OMAFRA, was one of the first
two certified master consultants for
Business Retention and Expansion
programs in Ontario in 1997 and
worked to create an annual
agricultural and rural contact book
so that all groups could keep in
touch and work together.
“[The contact book is] now in its
24th year,” she said in an e-mail to
The Citizen.“This was the first of its
kind for the province and no other
country has one like it. I started it for
Bruce and Lambton counties as
well.”
She also worked, as part of one of
the major aims of OMAFRA, tonetwork people to work together onprojects.
“Agricultural education was one
[area of focus] and I contacted two
people from the SeaforthAgricultural Society to look at aschool project in York and then
contacted the school boards to pitch
the idea,” she explained. “I also
contacted commodity groups and asa result the Slice of Huron was born.It is has now morphed into the
Huron Perth Agricultural and Water
Festival.”

The President of the Christian
Farmers Federation of Ontario
(CFFO), Lorne Small, was pleased
to meet with Ontario Premier
Kathleen Wynne last week. In
addition to becoming Ontario’s
Premier, Wynne will also take the
position of Minister of Agriculture.
According to Small, this sends a
clear signal to the Legislature and
public service that agriculture is a
major component in the Ontario
economy.
Small was pleased to convey
CFFO’s congratulations to the
incoming Premier and looks forward
to working with her. “The CFFO is
looking forward to a good working
relationship with the new Minister
of Agriculture and we are prepared
to assist the Minister wherever we
can. We appreciate the tremendous
challenge she is willing to take on
and wish her every success,” he said.
According to Nathan Stevens,
CFFO General Manager, “The
CFFO has built up a reputation of
being a trustworthy and thoughtful
organization and we will continue
on that path, offering considerate
solutions to the challenges
agriculture faces.”
