We hope everyone enjoys their day with loved ones. The weatherman predicted the worst snowstorm in five years on Thursday evening. The radio announcers predicted on Thursday no school for Friday and the report was that the grocery store was extremely busy Thursday morning as folks prepared for the fierce return of winter. It was not as fierce as what was expected, even though schools were closed. But it did snow, and snow, and snow. A heavy snow blanketed the area, 20 centimetres or so, and roads were snow covered and slippery. The streets of Brussels were heavy and many folks had trouble getting around. Many cars on main street had to get a friendly push from friends to be on their way after the road plows filled them in. Twelve hours after the storm began it seemed to pass and the sunwas even shining. A beautiful day onSaturday was enjoyed by all and thesnowmobilers could be seen from early morning until the late evening. Sunday was another beautiful day, but Monday was a different story! The freezing rain caused yet another day off from school- but who’s complaining! Congratulations go to Howard and Joan Bernard again! They have become great-grandparents for the third time in a very short span of time. Granddaughter Emma gave birth to a son they have named Nash. The Bernards now have six great- granddaughters and two great- grandsons. Returning from a trip of a lifetime are Jim and Leona Armstrong and Roger and Olivia McHardy. They made the 15-hour flight to Hong Kong to enjoy a 14-day Far East Discovery Cruise. They were on a Holland American cruise ship with about 800 passengers. The ship made eight stops in five different countries in travelling from Hong Kong to Singapore. They stopped and enjoyed tours in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Singapore. They found it was interesting to see the differences in the various countries, and also how all of them differed from Canada, in climate, terrain, agriculture and culture. They enjoyed talking to people from other parts of the world and also the calmseas and good meals. Many of thepassengers on the ship were fromBritain and Australia and they met some very nice people. The cabins on the ship were wonderful and very spacious. The entertainment at night was topnotch and had great musicians. The cabin staff, waiters and crew were all very friendly and helpful. One of the neat things was meeting nurses from this area in the Hong Kong airport when they were returning. The nurses were also returning after being on a mission trip to help residents in the area. These skilled nurses treated 5,000 patients in the eight days they were away. Returning from a three-week vacation are Jeff and Cathy Cardiff. They drove to Savannah, Georgia and spent two days in the beautiful historic setting. They went on Vero Beach, Florida and then onto Miami. They met up with David and Karen Griffin and went on an Eastern Caribbean Cruise. They boarded the large cruise ship, Celebrity Reflection and started the cruise. The ship held 4,200 people with 3,000 passengers, 600 food service staff and 600 ship crew. The crew works for eight months and then has two months off at a time. The ship would cruise at 24 knots and when standing on their corner balcony, Jeff reports it was really moving! Theship provided fantastic Las Vegas-style entertainment in the evening. The ship stopped at ports in San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Marten and St. Kitts. They did the island tours and were very impressed with their adventures. Upon returning to Miami, David and Karen left to visit with relatives in Key Biscayne and Jeff and Cathy travelled to Islamorada in the Florida Keys to visit with relatives. They report having a wonderful vacation. We are pleased to report that Peter Allison is home from hospital. He underwent surgery during the past week, but is home and doing well. There were three men from McGavin’s at the Trade Fair Expo for “blue” machinery, in Indianapolis, Indiana from Sunday to Tuesday over Superbowl weekend. There was a Superbowl party for the guests including Jeff McGavin, Paul Dodds and Chris Stevenson to enjoy and have a good time and watch the game on the big screen TVs. Another special event for the men to enjoy was a concert by Lone Star, which was great! They returned home very late Tuesday evening and probably passed the group in the next story on their way home. Steve Knight travelled to Indianapolis, Indiana with four others from Stolz Sales and Service to attend the same trade fair for“red” machinery. They were awayfor four days and stayed at theCrowne Plaza. This hotel is amazing because it is built around a train station. It has some specialty train sleeper cars from 1862 that have been transformed into rooms. The hotel is located beside the new Lucas Oil Stadium. They attended a basketball game and found time to go to the famous race track and take the tour of the track. Steve also met Locals return from warm weather vacations Network ADVERTISE ACROSS ONTARIO OR ACROSS THE COUNTRY! For more information contact your local newspaper.
