The Brussels Curling Club members
travelled to Seaforth to curl in their club
on the weekend. The club held its jitney.
They played two games with a potluck
lunch between the two games.
The day was organized by Steve and
Marni Knight who did a great job. There
were over 20 curlers enjoying the big
curl of Seaforth Curling Club ice.
Winners were: first, skip Rick
McDonald, Steve Knight, Brad Knight

Zwep who arrived to help with the
potluck and to do the dishes after the
meal. A very thoughtful thing to do,
thanks Jane.
The club is fortunate to have almost 40
curlers in the club. They played five
games per draw and have three draws per
year. Curling is a social sport and good
exercise. Anyone is welcome to come
out and watch, ask questions and see
what the game is all about. Maybe next
year curling would be something you
might want to try.

Halls to host Celtic Ireland Tour Aug. 26 to Sept. 13
On Sunday, Feb. 10, Allen and
Kim Walker greeted worshippers
and handed out the service of
worship at Knox United Church.
Rev. Tom Murray welcomed the
congregation. Birthday greetings
were extended to Debbie Hopper for
Feb. 13. Jenna Hopper assisted by
Rev. Tom Murray lit the Christ
Candle.
The congregation was entertained
by the children’s chime choir
playing “Open My Hearts” directed
by Ann Clark. The call to worship
was read responsively followed by
the singing of “When Morning Gilds
the Skies”. The senior choir sang,
“Let There Be Love” accompanied
by Ann Clark and then Rev. Murray
shared with the children, the topic
being “The Best is Yet to Come”.
Rev. Murray read the Letters of Paul
from Corinthians 3. After the
congregation singing, “And Can it
Be?”, the gospel lesson was taken
from Luke 9: 18-43a.
God’s Word was entitled, “From
Facebook to Face Time!” One’s face
is the blend of honour, reputation,
responsibility, prestige and
worthiness that one must maintain
within all social interactions. To
“lose face” is to believe in such a
way that every aspect of one’s being,
social, emotional, intellectual and
spiritual is reduced, ruined and
humiliated. On Facebook we create
the image of ourselves we want
others to see, edit out aspects of our
lives that are embarrassing,
uncomplimentary, or just too much
in your face. We can post the most
flattering profiles, fudge facts or
write total fiction. We can have
many facebook accounts. We do not
have complete control over our
Facebook face or wall. Others can
leave messages, report gossip, or
reveal secrets on our “wall” for
everyone to see.
Making “face time” with friends,
family, colleagues and neighbours,
takes away the digital filters that
hide or protect us. In today’s gospel
text the relationship between God
and God’s people goes from
Facebook to “face time”.
The offering was taken up by Ken
Procter and Doug Walker followed
by the offering praise, offertory
prayer and the prayer of
thankfulness read responsively.
The sacrament of holy
communion was administered with
members of session: John Campbell,
Ken Procter, Don Procter, Roger
Hopper and Allen Walker passing
out the bread and juice. The closing
hymn was “Open My Eyes, That I
May See”, as we shared. The singing
of “Go Now in Peace” concluded the
morning worship service.
Rev. Richard and Barb Hall are
hosting a Celtic Ireland Tour; Aug.
26 - Sept. 13, 2013. A brochure is

NEWS
FROM BELGRAVE
The UCW met at the home of Donna
Shaw at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Nancy
Folkard opened the meeting by welcoming
everyone and reading a poem called
“Getting Older”. Sheila Nixon led the
worship and Ruth Gordon gave the treasurer’s
report. Roll call was answered by
eight members. In business the group
discussed making turkey pies on Feb. 19 and
20.
Sheila thanked Muriel Coultes for her years
of dedicated service as secretary. The group is
still looking for a replacement. Muriel outlined
the program for World Day of Prayer on
March 1 at 2 p.m. at the Knox United
Church. Several ideas for fundraisers were
discussed.
Nancy Folkard presented a program
called “Boost Your Brainpower”. Recent
research has revealed that our brains
continue to sprout new cells and connections
between cells well into old age. Healthy
eating habits are among factors that
seem to slow or delay a decline in
thinking ability. Physical activity is also
emerging as a strong protector of
brain function. Continuing
to learn new things also
seems to help keep the
brain nimble. Remember,
you are never too old to
learn.
Following the bene-
diction and grace, lunch
was served and a social
time was enjoyed by all
those present.
