North Huron seeks community input for developmentNorth Huron citizens will bereceiving a residents survey in their
mailbox in the next few days. A
follow up to the Business Retention
and Expansion survey conducted
with area businesses, the residents
survey collects information on the
attitudes and opinions of communityresidents on local business areas.
Used in other communities, the
survey has assisted with economic
development efforts by identifying
new retail and service businesses
that residents would like to see.
The information gathered by thesurvey will be useful to the
municipality, as well as, the Blyth
and Wingham Business
Improvement Areas by providing
information on general shopping
patterns, business area perceptions,
reasons people choose to shoplocally and reasons why people shop
elsewhere.
“We are eager to hear from as
many people as possible. The
survey will be sent to every mailbox
in the municipality but we want to
hear from others who live and workin the area, as well as those who
come to North Huron to shop or
access services. The survey is also
available online at
www.northhuron.ca. We appreciate
people taking the time complete the
residents survey as the information
will be used for the future planning
and growth of our community,” says
Economic Development Officer
Connie Goodall.
Jesus portrayed as the original ‘Transformer’
Greeting worshippers at Blyth
United Church on Sunday, Feb. 10
was Tom Cronin. Ushering were
Earl Fyfe, Nicole Kerr and Tom
Cronin. Floyd Herman was music
director and Fred Hakkers ran the
power point.
David Onn welcomed everyone to
church on this fifth Sunday of
Epiphany in the absence of Rev.
Gary Clark. David drew everyone’s
attention to the announcements
printed in the bulletin. Special
mention was made that the ladies
will be making beef pies March 20
and turkey pies May 1. Call Joann
MacDonald to order. He also
reminded everyone of the soup, bun
and movie nights on Feb. 21, 28 and
March 7.
The call to worship was the singing
of two hymns, “Where Two or Three
are Gathered” and “You Are Holy.”
The prayer of approach was followed
by the singing of The Lord’s Prayer.
The scripture reading was from Luke
9: 28-36. The children were asked to
come to the front for their story time.
Lori Brooks told them the story about
how the Transformer Optimus Prime
compared to Jesus. Both the
transformer and Jesus rose from the
dead.
The choir sang the anthem, “It Is
No Secret What God Can Do.” Lori
Brooks delivered the message,
“Jesus the Original Transformer” to
the congregation. The hymn “Spirit,
Spirit of Gentleness” was followed
by the receiving of the offering, the
offertory response, “In the Bleak
Midwinter,” the offertory prayer, the
prayers for the people and the silent
prayer.” The last hymn, “Breathe on
Me Breath of God” was followed by
the commissioning, the benediction
and the response “Emmanuel.”
Everyone was invited for coffee
and fellowship after church.

The Kindergarten A and B classes
at Hullett Central Public School
have started a new unit of study on
feelings, friends and friendship. This
week explored the feelings of
happiness as expressed in the book
Snow Day, the feeling of sadness as
expressed in the book Hug Me and
the feeling of anger as expressed in
the book When Sophie Gets Angry –
Really, Really Angry.
We talked about the many
strategies one can use to help deal
with these feelings in a safe way,
where no one else is harmed or hurt
by our outward expression. We
learned how important it is to deal
with our feelings and let them out,
even if it means we take some time
away from people or end up yelling
at an empty chair. Kindergarten B
made their snowman craft to display
in our classroom this week and next
week it will be Kindergarten A’s
turn. We are reviewing the letters we
have studied since Christmas which
are C, K, E, H, R, M and D and
making as many new words as
possible for our class word wall.
During math class, we have been
playing snowman math and using
two kinds of dice, one with dots and
one with numbers.
The Grade 1 class has been on an
adventure throughout the school,
learning to read a school map and
having the opportunity to create
their own plan. In math, they have
been having fun using a variety of
non-standard units, such as paper
clips, toothpicks and stir sticks to
measure their body cutouts. In
language they have been learning
about the monthly virtue,
‘perseverance’. They read a poem
and a story, and watched a short
video about “The Little Engine That
Could” and are able to describe how
the engine had to use perseverance.
The Gruffalo book has provided
opportunities for art work,
descriptive language and drama. It’s
so much fun in Grade 1.
Grade 2/3 students have started
drama and Reader’s Theatre, and a
new unit in science on air and water.
Grade 3 students continue to prepare
for EQAO by practising past
questions. Parents can find more
information on Mrs. Gerber’s home
page.
Tim Lang from ConserveCanada
was a guest speaker in the Grade 4/5
and 5/6 classrooms this Tuesday. He
conducted a 90-minute energy
conservation workshop in each
classroom. He talked about
renewable and non-renewable
resources and sustainability.
There was also a hands-on
opportunity for the students to
explore wind energy and solar
energy. He was educating and
engaging the students about
conservation and the environment.
He even left each classroom teacher
the materials needed to make a mini
model of a solar-powered car.
It was a great workshop.
Grade 7/8 students have begun
transformations in math and are
translating, reflecting and rotating
shapes on grids. Some of us are
having fun, but some of us are
struggling especially as the Grade 8s
have to rotate shapes by degrees,
either clockwise or
counterclockwise.
Last week most students filmed
their healthy eating commercials.
They had a lot of fun with the
filming and have some intriguing
ideas for editing. Hollywood look
out! The newest crop of Spielbergs
may be coming from Hullett
Central.

You can’t love God and the world
(by James A. La Belle)
“You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity
with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself
an enemy of God.” James 4:4
It is my firm conviction that worldliness is destroying the church of Jesus Christ.
The church is more and more becoming... like the world, indistinguishable from
the world, pursuers of the world, lovers of the world.
Our relationship with Jesus Christ is hardly more than an appendage or appendix
to our busy, worldly lives. We are no longer distinguished as separate,
consecrated, pilgrims, sojourners, or holy unto the Lord; instead, we have...eyes
full of the world, hearts in love with the world, ears attentive to the world, lips
filled with worldly speech, hands filled with worldly things, feet comfortable with
wordly paths, and bodies no longer ready to depart and be with Jesus since that
would mean giving up the world.
There is a heaven to be won and a hell to be shunned, and all those who have no
visible, practical, transforming, determinative, self-denying, world-abhorring love
for Jesus Christ — will be anathema at His coming!
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the
love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world — the desires of the
flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions — is not from the Father
but is from the world.” 1 John 2:15-16
