dear husband, father and Tatta, Paul
Klemke who passed away 19 years
ago, February 12, 1994.
Of all the treasures life may bring,
Your family means the most,
And whether near or far apart,
That love will hold you close.
Thoughts of you are always with us,
No matter where we go,
Missing you will never fade,
But only seems to grow.
We cannot bring the old days back,
When we were all together,
But loving thoughts and secret tears,
Will live with us forever.
– Forever loved by your family.

proposal will promote health and
wellness, as well as tourism to the
region.
VanderMolen is seeking a letter of
support from the involved lower
tiers, including North Huron and
Huron East, before appearing before
Huron County Council with a
formal request for support.
“I am very supportive of the idea.
It would have a minimum cost and a
great number of positive things
attached to it,” says Gowing.
Still, councillors want to draw the
input of landowners along the trail
before formally supporting the
proposal. Municipal staff has also
been directed to investigate whether
any rezoning will be required.

Old Man Winter is throwing a
wrench into Morris-Turnberry’s
desire to hash out an agreement with
the Municipality of North Huron for
fire services.
Mayor Paul Gowing reports
inclement weather resulted in the
cancellation of council’s Jan. 22
session. It also led to the
cancellation of a planned fire
service meeting with North Huron
in Belgrave on Jan. 31. That meeting
is now set for Feb. 13.

After taking a hit when Ontario
Pork lost its monopoly on selling
hogs for Ontario producers, the
sales division is bouncing back.
That was the optimistic view of
Patrick O’Neil, Ontario Pork
Marketing Division manager who
said producers of all sizes have been
coming back to Ontario Pork which
now has about 23 per cent of hog
marketing. That works out to 2,000-
3,000 extra hogs a week being sold
in the fourth quarter of 2012
compared to a year earlier.
Some large integrated companies
have been seeking to diversify their
marketing by putting part of their
production through Ontario Pork,
O’Neil said. Some large
independent producers have been
seeking comparisons to contracts
offered by packers. Smaller
producers have also been
rediscovering Ontario Pork’s
marketing division. Some producers
want to support collective
bargaining power, he said.
Coming in the spring will be a
small premium for hogs from
operations meeting the standards of
the Canadian Pork Council’s
CQA® quality assurance program,
O’Neil said. Some farmers have
been reluctant to get involved
because they didn’t see
compensation for the extra work.
This will give a small reward.
But producers need to protect
themselves by becoming CQA
compliant. he warned. “One day
there will come a time when [some]
federal plant refuses to take non-
CQA hogs. The message is, if
you’re not CQA, do it,” he said.
Despite the challenges of the
last few years, Ontario is still a
good place to raise hogs, O’Neil
said. Ontario packers are paying
U.S.-equivalent prices. Ontario
essentially has the cheapest corn
in North America. There is still
surplus capacity in Ontario packing
plants. Ontario producers have
a wide range of options in the
hogs they produce with market
for everything from light to heavy
hogs.
The one concern is the state of the
Canadian dollar versus the U.S.
dollar, he said. The U.S. debt crisis
could lead to depreciation of the
U.S. dollar which would cause
problems for Canadians trying to
export pork.
