On Monday night, North Huron
Reeve Neil Vincent was honoured
with the Queen Elizabeth II
Diamond Jubilee medal presented by
the Federation of Canadian
Municipalities (FCM).
The medal, which was presented
by North Huron Chief
Administrative Officer Gary Long,
was presented to Vincent for his
services to the community according
to the FCM President, Karen
Leibovici.
In a letter to Vincent, Leibovici
explained that other government
representatives across Canada
appreciate his work.
“Your peers in local government
across the country admire your
accomplishments as a community
leader and congratulate you on
earning this prestigious award,” she
said in the letter. “FCM chose you to
receive this distinction for your
exemplary efforts to make your
community a great place to live.
It recognizes the important rolemunicipalities – and their elected leaders – play in ensuring
our prosperity and high quality of
life.”
Vincent stated that he was
surprised to learn of the award and
found out when he picked up his
council information package for the
meeting last week. He said that the
award was appreciated but that he
knew he couldn’t do it alone.
“It’s the people in the community,
all the people that show up and do
the job,” he said. “It’s people being
4-H leaders, coaching sports teams,
working with youth and working on
different things in the community.
With an award like this, there’s all
kinds of others that should have been
recognized more than me, but I’m
very honoured to receive this, so
thank you very much.”
In Leibovici’s letter, she explained
that, throughout the year of
celebration, 60,000 Canadians will
receive the medal that was created to
“mark Queen Elizabeth II’s 60 years
of service to the country.”
