There will be a card party at the
Community Hall on Feb. 8.
The Londesborough UCW will
meet on Monday, Feb. 18 beginning
with dessert at 7:30 p.m. Mikayla
Allen will talk about her summer Me
to We Mission Trip to Ecuador with
St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary
School.
As this is the love month I want to
share this quote from C.S. Lewis
that was included in the order of
service from Londesborough United
Church on Feb. 3. According to
Christ’s teaching neighbour is
interpreted to mean all mankind. The
scripture passage that morning was 1
Corinthians 13: 1-13.
“Do not waste time bothering
whether you love your neighbour;
act as if you do. As soon as we do
this we find one of the great secrets.
When you are behaving as if you
loved someone, you will presently
come to love him . If you injure
someone you dislike, you will find
yourself disliking him more. If you
do him a good turn, you will find
yourself disliking him less.”
HAPPY GANG SENIORS
The Happy Gang Seniors of
Londesborough held their first
meeting of 2013 on Wednesday, Jan.
30. During the business part of the
afternoon the group decided they
will not hold a card party as part of
the Clinton Public Hospital
Auxiliary Card Cavalcade this year.
Instead they agreed to sent a
monetary donation.
Janny Fear was the guest speaker
that day. Janny is a volunteer food
advisor and she offered advice on
how to eat healthier. Her advice
included the following tips. Read
labels carefully for nutrient
information and ingredient lists,
brown bread may not always
contain fibre. Choose healthy
margarines that are soft and non-
hydrogenated. Choose snacks that
are lower fat content or fresh fruits
and vegetables. Eat lean cuts of
meat.
When shopping be sure to include
foods from all four food groups
according to Canada’s Food Guide
to provide a combination of
nutrients. Remember ingredients are
listed on labels from most to least.
Choose vegetables of different
colours for Vitamins A and C.
And don’t forget to drink lots of
water.
The health check symbol on a
label indicates a healthy choice.
Janny had a variety of pamphlets
for the seniors to take home to
read.

Hullett CPS selling carnations for Valentine’s Day
By Colton Rodger
Love is in the air, so the student
council is selling carnations. The
carnations come in pink, red and
white and they are $2.50 each. Your
youngest, or only, child should come
home with a form with all the
information on it about how to order
your carnations. Sam Kerr is buying
a carnation for her little brothers’
friend, Jacob Josling. The spirit day
for February is a Slippers and Teddy
Bear Day. All grades are asked to
wear slippers and bring a teddy bear
to school. Students will get two
points in their house if they bring
both items. That’s all for this week
but since I don’t have that much
news I’m going to share a joke.
What would happen if everybody in
Canada drove red cars? Then it
would be a red car nation.By Morgan HowsonLast week at Hullett CentralPublic School we started our week
off with a much enjoyed snow day. It
is also a good week for me because I
also got the privilege of being able to
write about what is happening in the
intermediate classes.
So to start things off in the Grade
7 class the students were given a
challenge to read at least one book
during the month of January. Most
students in the class read
considerably more. For example,
some students read a whole series of
Harry Potter. Some of those books
contain at least 600 pages.
The Grade 7/8 math class finished
integers in math and now are moving
on to Cartesian co-ordinate grids. In
art the Grade 7/8 students are
painting copies of Paul Cézanne or
Paul Gaugin’s paintings. On Friday
they were busy enjoying the snow
hill, however the Grade 7/8 students
also love those snow days.
By Ben Stewart
Hello everyone, because we had a
snow day and a PA day not much
happened this week.
In the junior hall the Grade 5/6
class has started studying space.
They are excited to learn more about
their own planet, universe and solar
system. The Grade 6 students have
also started learning about European
explorers. Winter safety has also
been discussed. The students were
able to create posters that reflect
useful winter safety tips.
In Grade 3/4 the students did
social studies presentations this
week, with partners, about a
province or territory in Canada.
Grade 3/4s also did someexperiments in science playing withlight. They discovered that light travels in a straight line but it doesnot travel through walls. Just for funthey stuck eight pencils through a bag of water without causing leaks. That’s all for this week. Hope to seeyou all soon.

cheer them on as some continue to compete in the regional Remembrance Day Contest
hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion. Winners of the zone contest, shown here, received
awards for their contributions during an assembly at the school last week. Shown here are,

Hullett, North
Woods place
well at event
Students from several local
schools competed at the Royal
Canadian Legion's zone
Remembrance Day competition,
bringing home cash awards for their
poster, essay and poem entries into
the competition as well as earning
the right to continue on in the
competition to the district level.
Blyth Legion President Andy
Lubbers explained that, at the zone
level, five of the possible 33
certificates were awarded to
students from Hullett Central
Public School. Meanwhile, North
Woods Elementary School students
received two more certificates.
“Three of the students that
received awards today will be going
on to the regional competition,”
Lubbers told the Hullett Central
student body last week.
He said that, even though the
Blyth Legion Branch only has one
school compete, they had more
entries than some branches with
five or more schools. There were a
total of 170 entries from Hullett
Central.
