COUNTY OF HURON
MUNICIPAL CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
FOR THE REHABILITATION OF THREE BRIDGES
NOTICE OF COMMENCEMENT
THE PROJECT:
The County of Huron is planning to carry out repairs to three structures (as shown on key plans). The first
structure, Dane’s Bridge is located on the Howick-Turnberry Road (7) east of the town of Wingham and north of
Gorrie and Fordwich. The second structure, Clegg’s Bridge is located on Morris Road (16) west of Brussels and
south east of Belgrave. The third structure, the Auburn Bridge is located on the Blyth Road (25) immediately to the
west of Auburn.
All three structures span sections or tributaries of the Maitland River. The rehabilitation project for all three
bridges would involve the replacement/repair of deteriorated bridge components. This will include concrete repairs
to the bridge decks; and the replacement of the existing concrete railings with solid concrete barriers or parapet
walls for the Clegg’s and Dane’s bridges; and repair of the Auburn Bridge railings. Due to the extent of the work,
lane restrictions will be required. It is anticipated that road work will be completed during the 2013 construction
season.
THE ENVIRONMENTAL SCREENING PROCESS:
The planning for this project is following the environmental screening process set out for Schedule B activities
under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) document. The purpose of the screening process
is to identify any potential environmental impacts associated with the project and to plan for appropriate mitigation
of any impacts. The process includes consultation with the public, stakeholders, and government review agencies.
PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT:
The consultation program for this Class EA includes several opportunities for public involvement. For the initial
phase of the program, public input will be received until March 1, 2013. Additional opportunities for comment will
be provided as the process proceeds.
Any comments collected in conjunction with this Class EA will be maintained on file for use during the project and
may be included in project documentation. With the exception of personal information, all comments will become
part of the public record.
For further information on this project, or to review the Class EA process, please contact the Project Engineer:

On Saturday, Jan. 26 the Wingham
Golf and Curling Club held the
annual Country Men’s bonspiel. In
the first draw Robert Grein’s rink
came out on top with a win over the
Don Adams foursome. The second
draw had the Bob Corrigan team
from Goderich topping the Moran
team curling out of Walkerton. The
overall winner of the JR Coultes
memorial “bull” trophy was decided
by a quarter of a point with skip
Grein, brother Don Grein, Rodney
Gagnon and Steve Burke claiming
the trophy.
Organizers Marg Moffatt and
Ross Peacock did a stellar job
putting the bonspiel teams together
and they both are terrific volunteers
for the curling club.
In regular league play on Monday,
Jan. 21 the daytime winning skips
were Jim Taylor, Bruce Robertson,
Al Webster, Barry Simpson, Hugh
Clugston and Mac Inglis. The
Monday night men had John Mann
and Bob Johnston skip their teams
to victory. Mother Nature was the
winner on Tuesday night as snow
and high winds forced cancellation
of curling. Wednesday night mixed
teams taking home wins were
Robert Grein, Wayne Horton and
Julie Hallahan.
The Thursday daytime winners
were Clayt Ruppel, Glenn
McMichael, Jim Taylor, Bruce
Robertson, Stewart Leedham and
Barry Simpson. The Belgrave
league skips curling their teams to
victories were Elliott Miller, Bob
Sinclair, Dave Inglis and Marvin
Cook. Friday night mixed league
wrapped up the week with Wayne
Waechter and Murray Fear taking
home wins.
On Feb. 2 and 3 the club will be
hosting the Zone 14 mixed curling
bonspiel. The Sweetheart Bonspiel
kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 9 and
organizers are still looking for a
couple of teams for the second draw.

The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA
Lightning ended the regular season
with three wins over the weekend to
finish first in the Lower Lakes
Female Hockey League West
Division. The weekend started with a
double-header against the Windsor
Wildcats on Saturday.
The first game was a 6-2 decision
with Dawn Pletsch and Cassidy
Calhoun each scoring a pair of goals
to pace the attack. Harley Westman
and Courtney Surridge added singles
and assists were awarded to Tori
Terpstra (2), Ashlee Lawrence,
Kailyn Soers, Jordyn Sholdice,
Kelly Gribbons, Lexi Smith and
Surridge.
After a short rest, the Bolts were
back on the ice for a second win over
the Wildcats, this time by a closer 2-
1 margin. Surridge opened the
scoring depositing a nice backhand
into the top shelf after getting a feed
from linemate Smith. Pletsch then
scored completing a low-zone cycle
from linemates Lawrence and
Bantam callup Mel Nolan.
The Wildcats could only manage
to get one by goaltender Morgan
Baker, a shot from the point through
a maze of players in front of the net.
Sunday the Lightning travelled to
Brantford to play the Ice-Cats and
needing to win to finish first in their
division. The game was fast-paced
with good chances for both teams.
With a little over a minute left,
Terpstra put one off the post and in
with assists going to Gribbons and
Westman. Shea Tiley was solid in
net, stopping all Brantford shots to
seal the win earning the shut-out.
The Lightning play in the
International Silver Stick
Tournament this weekend in Sarnia
and then will open their Lower
Lakes playoffs the following
weekend with a series against
Windsor.

The Blyth Brussels Bantam LL
Burgundy Team took to the ice twice
last weekend, visiting Mount Forest
on Saturday and taking on the BCH
Ice Dogs on Sunday.
The first game saw Blyth Brussels
give catch up from a 2-0 deficit to tie
the game 2-2 when the final buzzer
rang.
Their luck wouldn’t hold against
BCH, however, who defeated the
Bantam team 3-1.
The team’s season record is 11-9-
2.
Bantam LL tie, lose games So close
Despite a valiant come-from-behind effort that saw them tie the game 3-3 in the third period,
the Blyth Brussels PeeWee Rep team couldn’t hang on and were beat by the Seaforth Stars
due to a late-game goal on Friday. Fortunately, Blyth Brussels was able to beat Seaforth in two
away games on Jan. 21 and Jan. 26. They next take to the ice on Feb. 2 against West Grey at
the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre at 5 p.m. (Denny Scott photo)
