The Blyth Brussels Novice Reps
travelled to St. Clair Shores,
Michigan on Jan. 25 for the
International Silver Stick
competition. The team was
guaranteed three games and with
some hard work and a little luck they
could make it to Sunday’s semi-
finals. The team’s first game was
Friday at noon against Belmont. The
kids never really got their legs going
the entire game. They ended up
losing to the eventual tournament
winners 5-1.
Their second game was at 5:30
p.m. on Friday. The kids knew if
they wanted to play on Sunday was
this was a must-win game. They
came out flying and never slowed
the entire game. With goals from
four different players the team came
out with a 4-1 win.
The third game was Saturday at
5:30 p.m. against Stouffville
Clippers. The team not only needed
a win in this game, but they needed
to win big. After two periods the
kids had a 3-0 lead. But they let the
Clippers get back into the game later
in the third with two late goals. The
final score was 3-2, leaving the team
with four points and a plus/minus of
zero. Blyth Brussels found out later
that it would not be enough to
advance to Sunday. It was a great
effort by the kids and a good team
building experience for all.
A special thank you to Lois
McArter for knitting all the Blyth
Brussels moms a scarf to help
support the team.
