(Denny Scott photo) When you’re wasting a lot of time worrying about something, it’s often a good idea to ask yourself, if this is a good use of your time and will it really matter next week. That whole concept kept surfacing last week after the MDL Doors fire. Small details are quickly put into perspective when the life and livelihood of our friends are at risk. Our small worries need to be shelved as we put our hearts and prayers out to the Lichty family and their many employees and their families. A fire is a major trauma to handle and quite easily plays with your mind. The impact of the fire of last week will be felt by these folks for weeks to come. Be gentle and kind, they are hurting badly. The skills and commitment of our firefighters were put to the biggest test. Time and intensity are gauged with each fire call. As volunteers the guys expect to offer a few hours each week for the good of our community. With the MDL Doors event their stamina was tested as the hours of duty were long and hard. They of course passed with flying colours. To some of my favourite men in Brussels – thanks for looking out for us. One of the neat stories from the fire was the food delivered to the firehall. Bodies working hard in the frigid temperatures need to be refuelled. Small communities like ours just seem to know what needs to be done and with barely a thought the effort was offered. Crockpots were put to their best use as soup, stew and chili arrived from 18 caring angels, one from as far away as Auburn. The wives of the firefighters were thrilled to get it to the guys in various ways, knowing 440 Turnberry St., Brussels 519-887-6851 Huron Country Hardware 15% off 20% off 25% off * Birdseed * Cleaning Supplies * All Winter Gloves & Hats * Work Boots * Tough Duck Apparel *Toys Closed Monday, February 18 ~ Family Day Enjoy the day with your family!
