St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary
School welcomed back its students
following a two-week Christmas
holiday. It was so exciting to come
back to school and see everyone
again. There is lots of work to be
done but the school becomes quiet
this upcoming week so we can all
focus on our upcoming exams.
On Wednesday all Grade 11
students embarked on a retreat
where they enhanced their
understanding of the world’s
religions by travelling to a mosque,
synagogue and temple. We wore
yellow on Tuesday to support the
Alzheimer Society Huron County.
On Friday, elementary students
from various schools got the chance
to experience St. Anne’s and its
electric environment for a day. If
you know a student in Grade 8 who
would like to attend St. Anne’s in
the fall, please call 519-482-5454 to
set up a tour.

At the start of the new year, many
people will make new year’s
resolutions. But unfortunately, most
of them will in no way pertain to the
soul. Most resolutions are likely to
focus on matters such as losing
weight, getting out of debt,
improving one’s career, making new
friends, improving self, etc. And
though there is nothing wrong with
these resolutions, most of them will
be made primarily out of selfish
motives.
The new year is both an enduring
spiritual metaphor and a concrete
opportunity...if we combine the right
attitude with effective
implementation. Resolutions allow
you to make extraordinary feel good
statements about how you’ll change
your life for the better, but then stop
after a few days weeks or months.
Properly done, the new year is a
wonderful time to effect some major
change in our lives.
In general, a new year’s resolution
is a decision one makes to reform
old habits or achieve new goals. This
is also like actual religion. Many
times one’s success in fulfilling his
or her new year’s resolution(s)
depends on the nature of the
resolution and the determination of
the person making the resolution.
Dr. Henry Cloud of Fox News
says “there are three areas in life
where we make resolutions: clinical
(how you feel), relationships
(marriage, dating, family friends,
work) and performance (dreams,
goals, talents, accomplishments).”
He claims the trick for keeping your
new year’s resolutions is twofold: 1)
a new energy source and 2) a
structure or template to guide that
energy.
Three weeks into 2013 let me
encourage you to add these two
things to your “new me” list: 1)
Recognize every day that God made
you to matter. He made you to make
a difference somewhere, somehow.
2) What you give, how you open
your life up to others, is more
fulfilling and more worshipful than
what you consume.
The Bible teaches that we were
made in His image (Genesis 1:27)
and our times are in His hands
(Psalm 31:15). One of the most
beloved of Psalms, Psalm 100 tells
us, “Know that the Lord himself is
God; it is He who made us, and not
we ourselves” (v. 3). In other words,
we were created and introduced into
this world for God and His purposes.
George Burger once put to pen
and paper a resolution truly worth
emulating. He wrote:”I will like
Paul, forget those things which are
behind and press forward; like
David, lift up mine eyes unto the
hills from whence cometh my help;
like Abraham, trust implicitly in my
God; like Enoch, walk in daily
fellowship with my heavenly Father;
like Jehoshaphat, prepare my heart
to seek God; like Moses choose
rather to suffer than to enjoy the
pleasures of sin for a season; like
Daniel, commune with my God at
all times; like Job, be patient under
all circumstances; like Caleb and
Joshua, refuse to be discouraged
because of superior numbers; like
Joseph, turn my back to all seductive
advances; like Gideon, advance even
though my friends be few; like
Aaron and Hur, uphold the hands of
my spiritual leaders; like Isaiah,
consecrate myself to do God’s work;
like Andrew, strive to lead my
brother into a closer walk with
