While Central Huron has plenty to be proud of when it comes to being accessible to those with limited vision, there is still some work to be done councillors heard recently. Paul Perna, a representative of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, made a lengthy presentation at the meeting, taking councillors on a virtual walk through Clinton and showing them the highs and lows. Perna began his presentation with a slide from one of the corners of Hwy. 8 and County Road 4, the main intersection in Clinton, where a tactile surface has been installed to let the visibly disabled know they are at a corner. He said, however, that some audible indicators for crosswalks should also be included. Perna said he would be more than happy to offer his services to the municipality if and when they wanted to improve their accessibility. He said Clinton (and Central Huron) are competing with Exeter to draw residents and with how accessible Exeter is, they would have the edge over Clinton for those with vision issues.
