musicals, hilarious comedies,
poignant dramas and some original
theatre programming.
“This landmark season promises
to be remembered for years to
come,” says Artistic Director Alex
Mustakas. “The array of
programming in our 2013 season
reflects our commitment to
providing quality entertainment for
theatregoers of all ages and we have
kept ticket prices the same as last
season, making theatre accessible to
all, while offering many
opportunities to save even more off
the regular ticket price.”
First on the playbill for the
Playhouse’s Main Stage is Rodgers
& Hammerstein’s masterpiece, The
Sound of Music, June 4-22.
Featuring an iconic score, this epic
love story brims over with some of
the most memorable songs ever
performed on stage.Next up is Monty Python’s TonyAward-winning musical comedySpamalot, June 26 to July 13. This
tongue-in-cheek retelling of the
classic tale of Camelot follows King
Arthur and the Knights of the Round
Table and their infamous quest for
the Holy Grail.
The life of a true artistic pioneer is
celebrated in the acclaimed musical
Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story.
This nostalgic production explodes
into full-throttled joy through
renditions of the legend’s greatest
hits, July 17 to 27.
The hilarious farce Too Many
Cooks promises to leave audiences
in hysterics for one week only, July
31 to Aug. 3, as an unemployed
drifter is persuaded to step in at the
last minute and impersonate the
master chef who has failed to arrive
and open a classy French restaurant.
Already being met with great
excitement is the announcement of
the Drayton Entertainment
production of Disney & CameronMackintosh’s Mary Poppins to closethe 2013 season. This ‘practicallyperfect’ musical sweeps into Grand
Bend from Aug. 7-Aug. 31.
Based on the acclaimed best-
selling book, Tuesdays with Morrie
is the uplifting autobiographical
journey of a sports writer who
develops a life-altering friendship
with his old college professor. This
show is on stage at the Playhouse II
from June 26 to July 13.Next up is the fun-filledwilderness adventure, WeekendComedy, July 17 to Aug. 3. When
two couples inadvertently double-
book a secluded one-bedroom cabin
in the Catskills for a weekend of
romance, the decision to share the
tiny quarters is a formula for disaster
– and laughs – as youthful
exuberance collides with middle-
aged stodginess.
Then, take an entertaining trekacross our vast country with theunapologetic musical comedySorry…I’m Canadian. Back in
Grand Bend by popular demand,
Neil Aitchison reprises his popular
character, Constable Archibald F.
Inkster to weave a charming blend of
humour and political satire with
musical gems from the Great
Canadian Song Book, Aug. 7 - Aug.
31.
While Central Huron has plenty to
be proud of when it comes to being
accessible to those with limited
vision, there is still some work to be
done councillors heard recently.
Paul Perna, a representative of the
Canadian National Institute for the
Blind, made a lengthy presentation
at the meeting, taking councillors on
a virtual walk through Clinton and
showing them the highs and lows.
Perna began his presentation with
a slide from one of the corners of
Hwy. 8 and County Road 4, the main
intersection in Clinton, where a
tactile surface has been installed to
let the visibly disabled know they
are at a corner. He said, however,
that some audible indicators for
crosswalks should also be included.
Perna said he would be more than
happy to offer his services to the
municipality if and when they
wanted to improve their
accessibility. He said Clinton (and
Central Huron) are competing with
Exeter to draw residents and with
how accessible Exeter is, they would
have the edge over Clinton for those
with vision issues.
