Atom Burgundy wins ‘B’ trophy in Wingham tourney
Over the Christmas break the
Blyth Brussels Atom LL Burgundy
Team travelled to Wingham for a one
day tournament where they played
three games.
The team’s first game was against
St. Marys, unfortunately the
Burgundy squad fell short by one
goal in a 5-4 loss, but they played a
very hard back and forth game.
The second game they played saw
them defeat TCDMHA 5-0. The
team played very well together
passing the puck and putting it in the
net. Blake Porter got on the
scoreboard putting two goals in the
net assisted by Rylee Chalmers for
Blyth Brussels to take the lead.
In the second period the boys
came out and Josh Plunkett scored
with a pass from Chalmers and John
Nesbit. Nathan Brown notched one
unassisted goal to end the second
period. Chalmers scored one more
in the third to make the win solid.
The third game they played
against Wingham for an action
packed game. With the fans on the
edge of their seats early in the game
Brown scored, assisted by Plunkett
and Chalmers. Wingham squeaked
in one goal to tie the game. Porter
put another one in to take the lead in
the first period.
The team did a great job killing off
two penalties and putting another
goal in the net by Brown, assisted by
Chalmers.
The third period was back and
forth action with fans cheering them
on until Wingham scored with four
minutes left in the third. Blyth
Brussels held them off and took the
win for the ‘B’ Championship.
Previously, the team won two
games before heading into
Christmas break. The team played
Mitchell and came out with a score
of 6-1.
They got on the scoreboard in the
first period with Chalmers and
Porter getting goals assisted by
Porter and Devin Bridge.
In the second period Cole Zwep
earned two goals assisted by Claire
Mitchell and Porter. Mitchell got one
past the pads of Ty McNichol in the
second period by that didn't stop the
Burgundy team. In the third period
two more goals were shoved in by
Zwep and Porter assisted by Zwep.
A great game played by all.
The team then hosted Tiverton for
an outstanding win of 7-2. With
Tiverton quickly coming out of the
gates they shot one in the net in the
first period taking the lead. The
team tied it up with Claire Mitchell
taking the puck up the ice from
defence to score unassisted.
Tiverton got another one past the
pads to take the lead.
The second period gave Zwep a
chance to shove two in the net and
Porter to put another one in assisted
by Chalmers. They kept going in the
third period with Simon Johnston,
Chalmers and Bridge all taking
credit for goals. Another great game
played by all.
