God Be the Glory”.
As I understand it recitations were
common to old fashioned Christmas
concerts and two more senior
members of the congregation
carried on that tradition. John Jewitt
recited “The Stove Pipe Hole”
[another familiar item in years past]
and Gordon Shobbrook gave “My
Bear Analysis” by Robert Service.
Three members of the Whyte
family played Christmas pieces on
the piano, Ian Driscoll, Kiara
Driscoll and Avery Whyte. Three
generations of another family also
tickled the ivories for the audience
with Christmas duets. Chloe and
Cassie Elliott played duets with
their grandmother, Marsha Szusz.
Then Marsha and Jennifer Elliott
played “What Child Is This?”.
The youngsters present gathered
at the front for a story, “The Puppy
Who Wanted a Boy”[for Christmas]
read by Brenda Radford. The
children stayed at the front for a
presentation of tricks and songs by
Jane Hoggart and Daisy, her St.
John Therapy dog.
The program ended with a
humorous skit by four not so angelic
members of the UCW. Seems these
angels, who were supposed to be
offering the good news of
Christmas, were responding to the
lives of the people around them.
Eventually, with the help of their
narrator, they got back on track to
wish everyone a “Merry Christmas”.
Santa Claus made an appearance to
the delight of the youngsters.
The new year will have begun
when you read this edition of your
weekly newspaper and I pose this
question to you for 2013.
Remember, every day is a gift. What
will you do with it/them?

Drayton A.D. honoured with Queen’s medal Drayton Entertainment is pleasedto announce that Artistic DirectorAlex Mustakas is a recipient of TheQueen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubileemedal. This new commemorative Medal, created in 2012 for TheQueen's Diamond Jubilee, ispresented to honour individualCanadians who have madesignificant contributions to the community and to the proud heritageof Canada.Mustakas was presented with theQueen Elizabeth II Diamond JubileeMedal at a special ceremony held on Tuesday, Dec. 18 in Stratford,Ontario as part of the celebrations inPerth-Wellington. The presentationwas made by Gary Schellenberger,Member of Parliament for Perth-
Wellington.
In honour of the 60th anniversary
of Her Majesty’s accession to the
throne as the Queen of Canada, the
award was created. The Diamond
Jubilee honours The Queen’s reign,
her service and her dedication to
Canada, and celebrates Canadian
achievements of the last 60 years.
The medal is a rare and prestigious
award. To date, there has been only
one Diamond Jubilee celebrated in
Canada – that of Queen Victoria in
1897. This anniversary therefore
provides a unique opportunity to
celebrate our country's traditions,
history, symbols, values and
institutions, particularly about the
role of the Crown in Canada. The
Chancellery of Honours, as part of
the Office of the Secretary to theGovernor General, administers theQueen Elizabeth II Diamond JubileeMedal program.“I am deeply honoured to be
recognized with the Queen's
Diamond Jubilee Medal,” said Alex
Mustakas. “I really feel that at the
heart of Drayton Entertainment is an
enthusiastic commitment to
community, so it is deeply
meaningful to me.”
Award-winning Drayton
Entertainment currently operates six
theatres in St. Jacobs, Drayton,
Grand Bend, Penetanguishene, with
a new theatre, Dunfield Theatre
Cambridge, set to open in March
2013. Since their inception in 1991,
under the tutelage of Alex Mustakas,
each theatre has had enormous
economic and social impact on the
communities in which they are
involved, welcoming over 200,000
theatregoers annually.
Gowing has new jobs
Morris-Turnberry Mayor Paul
Gowing reported he will have a
couple of new gigs at Huron County
Council in 2013.
Gowing noted he will chair the
second day committee-of-the-whole
sessions, as well as the quarterly
Huron County Accessibility
Advisory Committee meetings.
“This is something I’m going to be
quite involved in the 2013 year,”
says Gowing, noting there are
several requirements to be met in
coming years in order to comply
with the Accessibility for Ontarians
with Disabilities Act (AODA).
While council agreed to the
County of Huron’s request to
endorse its Multi-Year Accessibility
Plan Report, Breckenridge
questioned what types of costs were
tied to the request.
Michie said though there are some
administrative matters, like
amending Morris-Turnberry’s
emergency-management plan, the
municipality is otherwise compliant
for 2013. She added the county’s
multi-year plan sets out goals for
five years, with one issue that
needs addressing is ensuring Morris-
Turnberry’s website is accessible.

Clerk-Administrator Nancy
