SportsIronmen drop two of three weekend matches
The Wingham Ironmen played
three games during the holidays and
were successful in only one of them.
The most recent game was played
on Friday at the North Huron
Wescast Community Centre and the
Ironmen were handed a 6-2 setback
by the Kincardine Bulldogs.
With leading scorer Aaron
Armstrong out of the line-up due to
family commitments, coach Russ
Sutton was looking for someone to
step up their game. It never
happened as the Ironmen fell behind
3-1 after the first period and trailed
4-2 going into the final 20 minutes.
Kincardine outshot Wingham 35-
24 and the Ironmen were 0-5 on the
power play.
Dylan Bults scored the first goal
for the Ironmen, with help from
Brayden Pellett and Cole Pellett. Nic
Carter tallied the second Wingham
goal with assists going to Justin
Jacklin and Darren Kerr.
Cody Britton scored two goals for
the Bulldogs.
Coach Russ Sutton said that it was
not a good game for the Ironmen. He
said the Ironmen were a step behind
the Bulldogs throughout the game.
“We just lacked that step and
finish tonight,” he said.”We started
slow, came on a bit, and then we just
started going through the motions.”
He said the team may have been
affected by the absence of
Armstrong, but Sutton indicated the
team has to learn to play without
him.
“Other guys could have stood up
and come out stepped up their play,”
he said. “The challenge was there
and nobody grabbed it by the horns
and took it.”
Sutton said the Ironmen are
aiming for third place.
“A win tonight really would have
helped us get a little closer to second
but that’s the way she goes.”
Forward Brayden Pellett said they
just didn’t get the bounces.
“I think we played hard, it was a
decent game for us, but we couldn’t
get the bounces,” he said.
He indicated that the team did not
get off to a good start.
Pellett said the Kincardine goalie
made a couple of big saves, but there
were a couple of instances where he
was lucky to get his stick on the
puck.
“He got his paddle down on one
and a couple nicked him, but he’s a
good goalie, everyone knows that,”
he said. “He’s a really good goalie,
it’s tough to get by him, but
we have to find a way next
game.”
On Dec. 22, the Ironmen were in
Walkerton for a game against the
first place Hawks. Despite four-
point efforts from Armstrong and
Travis Donaldson, the Ironmen were
beaten 7-4.
Donaldson had three goals and
one assist while Armstrong collected
one goal and three assists. Single
assists went to Derek Elliott and
Joey Terwoord.
The teams were deadlocked at one
after the opening 20 minutes, with
the Hawks taking a 6-2 advantage
into the third period.
Walkerton outshot Wingham 43-
29 and the Ironmen were 1-5 on the
power play.
Armstrong had three goals and
one assist on Dec. 21 as the Ironmen
scored an 8-2 decision over the
Hanover Barons in a game played at
the North Huron Wescast
Community Complex.
The Ironmen took a 3-0 lead in the
first period and held a 6-1 advantage
going into the final 20 minutes of
play.
Dylan Williams netted a pair of
goals and Blair Goss had a goal and
an assist. Drew Gross and Bults had
one goal each. Evan Ducharme
picked up two assists while single
helpers were earned by Brett
Brophy, Donaldson, Carter,
Terwoord, Steve Kerr, Brayden
Pellett and Elliott.
The Ironmen outshot the Barons
26-23 and were 2-14 on the power
play.
The Ironmen play a home-and-
home weekend series with the
Mount Forest Patriots. They play in
Wingham on Friday beginning at
7:30 p.m. and then meet in Mount
Forest on Saturday, with play
getting underway at 8 p.m.
Ironmen drop go-ahead game
Coach Russ Sutton of the Wingham Ironmen said that
dropping the two of the three games they had over the
weekend had them aiming for third place instead of second.

Otters top Tyke Blue
Saturday, Dec. 22 saw the Blyth
Brussels Minor Hockey Association
Tyke Blue team travel to Teeswater
to play Teeswater Otters.
Both teams hit the ice hard and the
Blyth Brussels goalie stopped
Teeswater shooters from all angles.
Hitting the goal post and narrowly
missing the Teeswater net proved to
be the difference as Blyth Brussels
came up one goal short in the 3-2
loss.
A great game was played by each
member of the team as they finished
for the calender year. The new year
promises to be exciting.

BBMHA Novice
teams update
A snowy and blowy Friday, Dec.
19 saw the Blyth Brussels Novice
Rep team head to Goderich to play
the Sailors.
After a fast start, Blyth Brussels
scored in the first minute and never
looked back skating to a 5-0 victory.
On Saturday, Blyth Brussels
welcomed Listowel to Blyth.
Both teams fought hard with end-
to end-action all game but with good
backchecking, forechecking and
strong goaltending, Blyth Brussels
was able to secure a 5-2 victory.
NOVICE AE TEAM
The Blyth Brussels Minor Hockey
Novice AE team travelled to Arthur
on Dec. 22 for a difficult shutout
loss with a final score of 11-0.
On Wednesday, Dec. 19 the team
hosted the Teeswater Otters in Blyth
but couldn’t find the edge they
needed to break the 1-1 tie.
Blyth Brussels got on the
scoreboard in the first period with
Brett McCutcheon scoring
unassisted.
The game had back and forth
action for the second and third
periods until Teeswater scored to tie
the game and hold Blyth Brussels
for the rest of the match.
