An enjoyable afternoon was spent at the home of Miss Alice Hodgins, recently, in honox' of Miss Marion Bice, who has enlisted in the R.C. A.F. Eunice Hennessy, twin daughter of Mrs. G. Hennessy, had a narrow escape at Grand Bend recently. Her Companion, Charles Corbett, of Lu­ can, was unable to rescue hex* when the pair had ventured too fax’ from the beach. Artificial respiration was applied on both the girl and boy. Eunice was able to walk to the cot­ tage without assistance and Corbett was removed to his summer cot­ tage there. en- CYRUS BALKWILL PASSES AFTER A LONG ILLNESS WINDSOR—Mr. Cyrus Balkwill passed away on Friday, August 14, in Windsor, following a three-year illness due to a stroke. The deceased was born near Exe­ ter, in 1862, third son of Silas D. Balkwill and Mary Jane Taylor, In 1875 the family moved to Essex County, where Mr, Balkwill spent the greater part of his life. Reuber, preached a very acceptable sermon on the subject: “Clean Windows.” The Crediton Women’s Institute are again making jam fox' overseas, and are asking the ladies of the community to help.
