The Senior Women’s Institute
held their Xmas meeting on Wed
nesday night. Mrs. Cross and Mrs.
Drysdale were hostesses. The presi
dent, Miss Beryl Pfaff, presided.
Opening exercises were held’. The
roll Call was answered with a gift
for the Sick Children’s Hospital.
The ’ 'motto on the Merry Christmas
was taken ’ by Miss Sally Manson.

singing of Christmas carols. The
special speaker for the night was
Mrs. Clarence Smillie, speaking on
“In the Beginning”, dealing with
the origin of the early Christmas
customs. A ladies’ quartette, con
sisting'. of Mrs. Malcolm Dougall,
Miss Irene Hoggarth, Miss Mabel
Workman and Mrs. W. A. Mac'Lar-
en, sang “I Love a Little Cottage”.
The committee in charge of the re
freshments were Mrs. T. Sherritt,

The Late Mrs. Thos. Hudson
There passed away at her home
here on Saturday, Mrs. Thos. Hud
son, in her 7'2nd year following a
two-years’ illness. The deceased,
though in ill health attended her
household duties in her own quiet
way until she became confined to
her room a few months ago. She
was formerly Miss Annie Gill and
had resided here ever since her
marriage. Surviving are her sor
rowing husband, one daughter,
Mrs. Earl Mitchell, Usborne, and
one son, Lloyd, of St. Marys, and a
niece, Miss Edna Gill, at home;
two brothers, Mr. Samuel Gill of
Cromarty and Mr. James Gill, of
West Monkton. A public funeral
service was held from Carmel Pres
byterian Church, of which Mrs. Hud
son was a valued memb.er on Mon
day at 2.30 p.m., conducted by her
pastor, Rev. Wm. Weir, who read
the ninetieth Psalm and spoke on
the influence of the life of the
deceased in the church. He quot
ed a line found in-the Glad Tidings,
a monthly issue of the W.M.S.,
which read: “Mrs. T. Hudson, sec
retary of the Home Helpers, has in
creased the membership and givings
in spite of a two-years’ illness”.
She was a life member of the W.M.S.
and secretary of the Home Helpers’
Department. The floral tributes
numbered over twenty, showing the
esteem in which £he deceased was
held. A mixed, quartette compris
ing Mrs. Malcolm Dougall, Miss
Margaret Dougall, Rev. Weir and
Mr. W. A. MacLaren, sang “Abide
With Me”. The pallbearers were
Messrs. Sid McArthur, Peter Moir
Jas. Bengough, Robert Cameron,
Thos. Lavendei’ and Fred Smalli-
combe. Interment was made in
Hensall Union Cemetery. Those

The Ladies’ Aid and W.M.S. of
the Evangelical church held their
annual meeting in the church base

fong, took the chair for a short de
votional period and led in the open

Mrs. Chas. Snell, each read a short
scripture reading and Mrs. Wild-
fong read a Christmas poem. Rev.
C. Becker then gave a talk on “The

to again send Christmas boxes of
cake, fruit, candy, etc., to the shut-
in members and friends. A dona

ren’s War Memorial Hospital, Lon
don. The Sunshine Committee for
