The public school inspector’s report was read, also the statements sent re garding grants received, viz.: pub lic school, $085.35; high school, $2,0'61,25, Principal Wethey reported number on the roll at present, in the high school, Mrs, Hill supplied for two days, Nov, .26 2>7, for Mr. Koch, who was ill. interesting and instructive display of talking pictures had been given in the arena by the representative of the Ontario Safety.' Old time costumes were displayed by Mrs. Stevens, Miss Eileen Shell, Mrs, R. Snell, Mrs. B. W« F. Beavers, Miss Helen Penhale and Miss Marion Bissett. The modelling was interspersed with musical numbers by Mrs. E< Harvey, Mrs. M, Fletcher, Miss B. Senior, Miss Miss. June. At the program refresh- Celebrate Diamond Wedding Jubilee Mr. and esteemed celebrated niVersary at their home Monday af ternoon and evening .when they were “.at home" to their many friends. A large number* of friends and relatives called to offer their felicitations. An address, was read by the secretary, Mr. B. W. F. Beavers and the presentation of a beautiful blanket whs made by thg president, Mr... John McGrath.; Mr. Essery expressed the ’ apprecia tion of' Mrs. Essery .and himself. Close friends .of Mr* and Mrs,-Essery welcomed the guests and invited them . to the living-room which was effectively decorated with bronze and yellow mums. Mr. and Mrs. Es-‘ sery were assisted in . receiving by their daughter, Mrs. Byron Hicks and by their son and daughter-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Essery. The tea table, lovely with lace cloth, pink and white mums and tall ta pers, was presided over by friends of the happy couple. The grand daughters, Dorothy Hicks, Helen Essery, Beatrice Ess.ery and Mild red Hicks served in the tea room and .invited the guests to register.. Another grand-daughter, Mary Mar garet Essery, assisted by Maxine 'Bowden, also helped in the tea room. Mr. and Mrs. Essery received gifts and numerous cards and mes sages of congratulations included REV. J, W, DOWN honored Sixty Years in the Ministry Rev. j. w. Down was the guest of honor at a banquet in the Main, St. United chnrch on Monday, ev ening sponsored by the South Hur-* on Ministerial Association. About fifty, including the ministers and their wives, and a number of lay men saf down to the tables and par took of a splendid supper served by the ladies of the church,. Rev, C- Beacom, of Grand Bend,, secretary of th© .Association, presided over the proceedings. A sing-song was led by Mr. W» R. Goulding. Rev* Dr. Richards, of London, was the guest speaker and said it was a love ly thing to honor Mr. Down who had spent sixty years in the ministry and had rendered valuable service to his church. The subject of Dr, Rich ards’ address was “The Then and Now”. He spoke horse and buggy days of the and regretted the passing family pew. The church has had problems to face and will. It will be a sad day when it. refuses to face up to its problems. He believes there is a glorious op portunity ahead but it will require courage, resolution and persever ance both on the part of the clergy and the laity. Rev. R. A. Brook, of Hensail, president of the South. Huron Presbytery, paid tribute to Mr, Down, /dating that he was a guiding light to the younger min isters, having given sane leadership, good judgment and a fine example.. Reeve B. W. Tuckey brought the greeting of the council and the com munity. Rev. In 1'881 he was given special ordina tion by the Bible Christian Church of which body James Street United, church, Exeter, was originally a par- t ish. He was sent to Prince Edward Island for his first charge. In 1.884 the Bible Christian ‘Church united* with the Weslyan and other Methodist bodies aud the same year he was given full ordination in the Methodist church. All his minis try was spent in the Bay of Quinte conference. In 1927 he retired to Exeter. Best wishes for ’ his fu ture health and happiness were freely expressed. ------------V------------ DEATH OF FRED BAWDEN The death took place in Victoria Hospital, London, on Thursday of last week of a well-known resident of Exeter in the person of Mr. Fred erick W. Bawden who passed away in his 5 Sth year. Mr* Bawden was taken to the hospital for treatment on the Monday previous. His death came as a great shock to his many friends. Deceased was born in Exe ter, a son of the Late Peter Baw den. He was a mason »by trade. For many years he was associated' with his father in running a skat ing rink in Exeter. The rink was in operation about fifty years ago and continued until 1908. In 1910 Mr. Bawden was united in marriage with Missx Lavina Link, of Dash wood, who with one daughter, Mrs. Jack Farquhar (Helen) of Hensail, survives. Deceased was a ^member of the I.O.O.F, The funeral was held Saturday afternoon from the undertaking parlor of Mr, E. R. Hopper, the service being conducted by Rev. M. A. Hunt. Interment was in the Exeter cemetery. The, bearers were Messrs, John Norry, T. O, South cott, Herbert Ford, Walter 'Cunning ham, Louis Day and Wm. Middle ton. Among those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. John Bawden, of Colling- wood;. Mr. Salkeld, and- Mr. Sandy Bawden, of London; Mr, and Mrs. Geo. Bawden, of Lucan; Miss Ida Link, of Brantford; Mrs, J. Ja cob and Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Jacob,' of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Link, Mrs. Wickson and James Wick* son, of Frankenmuth, Mich,; Mrs.1 Henry Rutig, of Saginaw, Mich,;' Mr, and Mrs. Bert Filkey and Mrs. Howard 'Symington, of Sarnia, Renew Now! Ronald’s design meant, as near as could be estimated, an amount of 17 per cent additional production and a 2 per cent saving on spoilage. BURTON PRESZCATOR DIES The funeral tpok place on Tues day afternoon from Mr. E. R. Hop per’s funeral parlors under Mas onic auspices of Mr. Burton Rus sell iPreszcator, who died in Victoria Hospital, London, on Saturday last in his 57th year. Mr. Preszcator was taken suddenly ill Tuesday of last week while employed at the Exeter canning factory. The fol lowing day he was removed to the hospital in London. He is surviv ed by his mother, Mrs. Samuel Preszcator, with whom he resided; also two brothers, Leslie, of To ronto; William, of Stephen town ship; and two sisters, Mrs. Flossie Smith, of London and Mrs. Walter Harness, of town. The funeral service was conducted by Rev, N. J. Woods assisted by Rev. M. A. Hunt, and the members of Lebanon. Forest Lodge, A.F. & A.M., attend ed in a body and officiated at the graveside. Interment was in Exe ter cemetery. The bearers were B. Dawson, C. Tanton, A. E. Buswell, H. W. Lewis, (Fred Dawson and Wm.
