Mrs, Ike very pleased last week when they received by mail an exceptionally good photo of their grandson, Clif ford Hicks, who is training with, the R.Q.A.F., in Quebec. The annual Rally Day service of the Centralia Sunday School will he held in the church on Sunday- morning, Sept. 21st. Special mu sic will be provided by a Sunday School choir. A baptismal service, will be conducted by Rev, Merriam. The opening meeting of the Cen tralia Home and School Club will be held in the school on Friday even ing of this week. Everybody is wel come to attend. Come and helzi to make the first meeting, a suc cess. On Saturday of last week Mrs. W- Eaker entertained her Sunday School class to a pleasant after noon at her home. Games were played and a sumptuous supper waa served by the hostess. Ice cream was freely served, thus adding greatly to the delight of the young sters. Geo. Kyle and Wilson Carlisle, Mr. William Davidson, chairman of the finance committee, reported the results of i the aluminum drive, stating that aluminum would still be acceptable and that a drive for papers, and magazines would commence on or about September 15th , conducted by the boys of the Continuation School, under the leadership of the principal, Mr. Morley Sanders. The people are surged to have their packages of newsprint and maga zines . tied up in separate bundles when these collections are made, to make the work easier for the boys, and ’the storage of same more prac ticable. » The treasurer, Mr. H, 0. Brook,, read a letter from the provincial office,” reminding the Branch of' the necessity of having the membership of the branch re vised to date by the renewal of Red Cross membership fees of $1.00 per person. These fees become due on'October 1st and plans were made to bring this matter before our members within the next few days, and to secure before December 31st, all renewals, so that those present at the annual meeting will be mem bers in'good standing and eligible to vote. Again we throw out the invi tation. to all our people to join in this effort to win the war and to ease as best we can the hardships and losses of those who are in the front line. We are exceedingly grate ful to those who are constantly at the task. But even these would be cheered in their work by an increas ing number offering to share the lo'hd. They ran out of gas near here and were obliged to wait, until seven till the local gas pump was allowed to open. Only a few miles further on they had drums of gas stored to run their trucks. Dr. A.
