GOULDING TUCKEY, ■Reeve of the Village of Exeter., V for VICTORY “GOD SAVE THE KING” SECOND DROWNING ' AT GRAND BEND The second tdrowning accident of the season took place at Grand Bend Sunday afternoon when. John Weitziel, 43-year-old Hespeler baker, and a former resident of Stratford, was drowned while swimming be­ tween Oakwood and Grand Bend. He was swimming with several companions and was seen to. he in trouble. The water was very rough at the time, While his companions sought assistance the body disap­ peared and some fifteen or twenty minutes later it was seen being washed up on the beach opposite the main road, just south of the Casino, Weitzel had gone to Grand Bend on Saturday afternoon, and was yisiting at the cottage of brother-in-law and sister, Mr, Mrs. Claude Necker, of Waterloo. About 4.45 in the afternoon he was in the water with friends and was out’somewhat farther . than other members ol^iis party when he dis­ appeared. Considered to be a good swimmer, Weitzel had recently complained of slight heart attacks, and it is thought he may have had a seizure while in the water. Coroner Dr. P, J, O’Dwyer, of Zurich, was called. Mr. Weitzel was a resident of Stratford for about 10 years, leav­ ing foi\ tlespeler in 1932,. While in Stratford he was part-owner of the Stratford Bread Company. The victim was & native of Plattsville, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Weitzel, .now of Hespeler. surviving are two sisters, Claude Necker,, Waterloo, an# H. Burns, of Toronto. Mrs. .Zimmer, of Windsor, is vis­ iting her mother, Mrs. Willett. > Mr. Harold Penwarden is confin­ ed to his bed with strepticocus. Mrs. W. Parsons received a let­ ter from Mrs. J. Falconbridge, To­ ronto, telling that Capt. John Fal­ conbridge has arrived safely in England. His many friends will be glad to know of his safe arriv­ al. Miss Dorothy Hicks and F. E. Hall, R.C.A.F.,-spent the week-end at the home of Dorothy’s mother, Mrs. B. E. Hicks. The annual Rally Day service of the Centralia Sunday School will be held in the church here on Sunday morning, Sept. 21st. Special mu­ sic will be provided by a Sunday School choir. A baptismal service will be conducted by Rev. Merriam. Parents desiring to present their children for baptism at this service are requested to get in touch with the pastor W.M.S. Meeting The September meeting „pf the W.M.S, was held in the schoolroom of the church on Tuesday after­ noon, Sept. 9th, with Mrs. Merriam in charge of the devotional part of the programme. The meeting opened with hymn 156 followed by prayer by Mrs. Merriam. The scrip­ ture reading from I Corinthians, chapter 13, was read responsively. Hymn 4 Was sung. The program, "What Would You Do If—" was dealt with in the form of a discus­ sion and proved very interesting and helpful. Hynhji 109 was sung, Mrs, Skinner, the president, took charge of the business. The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted. The roll call was answered with the name of a favorite fruit. It was ■decided to have a bazaar and sup­ per on November 16th, with a guest speaker in* charge of the ser­ vice. Mrs Hepburn invited the Society to her hprne for the October meeting to be held in the evening. A solo* by Mrs. W. Skinner was greatly appreciated. Mrs. Mei’riam was named as a delegate to the con­ vention, Rev. Merriam closed the meeting with prayer. Anthony was in London Monday morning where he gave an address on Browning’s poem', "The Grammarian’s Funeral" before the London Ministerial Association. Rev. D« C< Hill,.,and Rev. N. J.
