It is not a casual courtesy to “drop over and see us some time”, but a definite invitation. The week chosen is “made-to-order” for the visits em bracing as it does, Canada’s “Dominion Day” and United States, “Independence Day.” The plan « 45 is being carried in practically all Ontario Weekly Newspapers, and their combined circulation in the United States, plus the many who will follow the suggestion printed below and mail papers to American friends, will ensure visitors that they will meet old1 friends in their old home towns on the week specified. The plan is by no means an ’’Old Home Week,” and no entertainment is planned. It is designed by Canadians to offset rumors prevalent in the United States regarding conditions in a Canada at war. 9 4> $ ** • 9 Welcome to Ontario The war has made no difference to American travel in Ontario. Entry and exit from this premier province of the Dominion of Canada is as free as in peacetime. No passports are required of United States citizens. The simplest form of identification suf fices for Border-crossing purposes. For proof of this—-if proof be thought necessary-—one need vbut consult any of the thousands upon thousands of delighted travellers who were our guests during 1940. 4 Let none of the “spare rumors” of which you may have heard last season interfere with plans for future holidaying. To Ontario, with its 400,000' square miles of lakes, woods, streams, scenic playgrounds and busy cities, its wonderful fishing and hunting, its unsurpassed Canadian highways system, its complete freedom from- bridge tolls, meals taxes and local sales taixes, and its primary desire 'to be a good host to friendly, understanding neighbors, we cordially invite you again this year. A far larger return on yo.ur American dollar than any mere premium—-substan tial as that premium may be—awaits your visit here. Conte and see for yourselves what Ontario has to. offer in vacation pleasure. I know you will not be disappointed. ' M. F. “HEPBURN, Premier, Province of Ontario This year, July 4th falls on a Friday and pro vides an excellent opportunity for a real week-end. All that poppycock about food and gasoline ration ing, compulsory military service and the seizure of personal firearms and fishing tackle is pure, un diluted bunk. You never were as free in your life as you will be on your next visit here. There will be a welcome on the mat, or a light in the window, depending on the hour of your arrival. Wind up the gas buggy on that week-end and be here; ex pect to meet old friends and enjoy yourself. ’ In the centre of this page, Hon. Mitchell F. Hepburn, our premier, extend^ his invitation to ^American visitors, and adds his assurance that their visit will be as pleasant and trouble-free as ; Canadian authorities can make it. We, of Exeter, add our invitation to our Premier’s. As citizens of Canada, we know conditions for what they are, and can back our Premier’s statement to the limit. ••••Exeter Home Coming Reception Committee GRAHAM ARTHUR McColl-Frontenac Service Station COATES & MASON , Sunoco Service GRIEVES’ LUNCH LEAVITT’S THEATRE o SNELL BROS. & CO Supertest Service Station ♦ i E.
