CHRISTMAS
By REV. ROBERT, U. MacLEAN
Minister, ,St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church
We welcome this opportunity of extending to you
the Season's most cordial greetings, and of expressing
the hope that God will bless you, with His best gifts.
Christmas is a joyous festival which never grows
old. Like the new life that flows throughout the
arteries of the waiting world in spring-time, Christmas
is a glorious renewal of the springs of our life, it is.
an event that has to do with the very meaning of our
lives. The glory-song of the angels heralding the birth
of Emmanuel no less proclaims the wondrous truth
that "trailing clouds of glory do we come from God
Who is our home."
As the years pass, Christmas should mean increas-
ingly more to us. in our early years the principal
significance of the Season was the colorful and kindly
Santa Claus. And becoming men and women we put
away many childish things. But how much more
ought we to see and hear and believe in this event
now that we have grown older. Our imaginations
ought to be fired by lovlier hopes and fairer dreams
than we have ever entertained in childhood.

Still the Angels: sing and the-Stambear ,witness
to the most wondrous event in all time—the birth of
Christ.. It is an event that has cleft the ages—dividing
time into B.C. and A.D. and ushered us into a new era.
It is an, event that has changed the complexion of
peoples' minds and has given life a new and glorious
significance. Christmas means that God has in Christ
come into human life in a way that the world can
never forget or should never want to forget. God can
come into human life because God has come into
human life. The Divine and the human Pare not so
dissimilar that God cannot- enter our lives. What a
glorious revelation of our nature and destiny
"In Him was life; and the life was the light of men." "That was the true Light, which lighteth, every
man that cometh into the world."
When Christ first entered the world He came to a particular place. But ever since the day "a cloud
received Him out of their sight" He has been returning to the world seeking ,an entrance; not "to an Inn
where there was no room" or "to a lowly stable with oxen standing by", but to the heart of all humanity.
On what a world wide scale is the miracle of Christmas being repeated.
How silently, how silently, No ear may hear His coming;
The wondrous gift is given; But in, this world of Sin,
So God imparts to human hearts Where meek souls will receive HiM, still
The blessings of His Heaven. The dear Christ enters in,.
How manifold are God's gifts to us—not at this season only, but for all the seasons and throughout
all our days—"love, 'joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, .goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (Gal, 5:
2,-P.,3). Is not the possession of these gifts the true, riches of life These fruits of the Spirit can give
to us an ardor for living such, as we never knew in childhood days.
"Arise and shine for the Light is come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon Thee"
